it lights up through the USB port but my PC is not detecting it as new hardware..anyone else see this?
 
Can't remember how mine went when installing, have you tried unplugging it and then re-inserting?

You don't say what operating system you have, but you may also be able to install through the add new hardware menu.

yes its windows98 se. I have tried unplugging etc...and I have tried "add new hardware".

I took it back to the shop, they tried it and it worked! So it looks like it is my computer that is the problem! aaarrgghhhh!!

I will have to goto my friends house and try it there.
 
Had the same thing my self when first installing.. found out it was a faulty USB {loose connectioin] on my computer switched to another USB opening and it worked ok...
