where's the best location for an inline amp

1 as near to lnb as possible

2 inbetween lnb and motor

3 in between motor and computer

4 as close to computer as possible

any ideas?:-reindeer

It is supposedly best in the midle of the cable run, but will also be OK before the motor, but what needs to be considered is A) whether one is needed and will be beneficial and B) whether the SS2 will handle the additional power required, you may well damage your PC.

thanks for your comments, the problem i have is that my signal quality and level at best is usually around 70% and i here people on this forum talking of 85-90%, now i know i am a fair way from my dish i measured it to around 35mtrs+ so i thought the best option would be an amp (i wonder if anybody else has ss2 with inline amp)
 
35 mtrs is not excessive however it really depends upon the quality of the existing cable, it may benefit you financially to get a better spec cable as opposed to an in line amplifier.
 
I've always used an amp on my 20mtr run.
The SS1 seems to like the extra signal.

Yes, but yours isn't also trying to power a motor as well, I would be very concerned about the additional power required by the amp.

It's a suggestion.

But doesn't the SS2 turn off power to the LNB during dish transit ??
If not then the original arguement still holds, but if it does then it would be only an issue of duty cycle on the output device rather than load.

Have no direct experience of these two together, just throwing thoughts about :D

How could it turn of power to the LNB, it would still need to send power to the motor. :)
