I have a Sky Plus DRX280 and it has a problem.
The signal keeps breaking up & programs I record often fail (no signal)
In setup/signal test I get a pretty good signal strength & quality on Input 1 but virtually none on Input 2. It mostly says "not locked"
If sometimes flickers on a bit.
I tried swapping the LMB connectors over, and still get the same result, ie, Input 1 fine, input 2 not locked.
This tells me its not the Dish or LMB.

Ive done all the resets, including the installer setups.

Im guessing the box is faulty.
Before I buy a new one I just wanted to put this on here for some comments.
Im going to buy a new DRX890

If swapping the inputs around makes no difference, then you probably need a power supply repair. google for digirepairs.co.uk, they'll arrange collection, repair the power supply and delivery back for a good price. They also sell refurbished/repaired HD boxes for not too much money, which will probably be a lot more reliable than the majority of brand new ones.

Would the overall cost including shipping to and from Majorca be economic, though?

If so, then I'd agree it would be the best course of action, as the replacement Smoothing Capacitors will be of much higher quality than the garbage used originally.

Possibly not, although it would alleviate the necessity for phoning Sky to pair the card to a new box.

Yes, hadn't considered that aspect.

Well, if our friend is handy with a soldering iron, many have successfully carried out a DiY repair. That's an option to be considered.

HI,

I had the same symptoms a fortnight ago, Sky sent a bloke out to me and he just tested everything with his meter and then changed the cables.

No problems since. He reconed it is a common fault due to the weather.

What he actually means is its a common problem caused by the cowboy installers not sealing the F-connectors properly!
