My Satellite Setup
Strong 4375 driving 1.8 C.M. offset + Inverto Black Ultra twin + BSC 421 and Zinwell C band l.n.b.,s - DR HD F15 - TM5302 and Skybox/Openbox M3 - HD receivers.+ other dishes in use - 2.4 CM offset - Alcoa 1.8 P.F. - C.M. 120.

Hi - I did try with 1.2 a few months back - but only got occasional lock not a great deal better than when i tried with 90 .c.m. ... i have a 1.8 in a position to try again ... but currently set up for C band ..

For a UK dxer it's not an easy catch in C band. The 8PSK modulated frequencies with FEC of 3/4 or greater in C band from 68.5E are the crown jewels in terms of signal captures from a UK located dish. Those signals are the domain of the extreme fringe men and require a big dish. I am not sure if anyone on the forum who is UK based has achieved a stable lock from 68.5E in c band for 8PSK signals with FEC of 3/4 or greater, I may be wrong on that point though?

Had a go about 10 days or so ago .. using a fixed 1.8 channel master offset , very limited results though ... no better than with the old 1.8 Alcoa prime focus a few years ago ... very old thread here ... 68.5 East C band result - SatsUK

!.8 c.m. is way too small .. and at 2.4 elevation ,on that sat from here the fading effect is chronic :(
i will post back here tonight with a list of the transponders i locked with the offset .. think there were 8 or so almost all encrypted - l.o.l.

Yes, there are a few difficult requirements to get the C band signals from 68.5E from a UK located dish. The need of getting a clear line of sight to the satellite with a dish large enough to receive the C band signals is a big task, especially for the 8PSK signals with FEC of 3/4 or greater.

When I had remote control access using Team Viewer and EBS Pro to a Prodelin 3.8m dish fixed on 68.5E I did manage to get around 6.5db for the 8PSK/3/4 signals but it was not enough to achieve a lock. In theory, the dish should have been capable of locking the signals but there were alignment issues with the LNB and it was not an easy job to adjust it.

Out of reach for me on the 1.8, can just about manage some lumps and bumps in the noise floor at 66E. If we'd moved next door there's a perfect spot on a garage roof that does have good LOS and no, I won't be asking them :-rofl2

Pity .. you will have a much better elevation figure down at your location .. so much less fading effect.

My locked transponder list is below ... most locks were only quite brief But long enough to scan channels (mostly encrypted).. and then faded ... taking sometimes a couple of minutes or more to return to lock. The c.m. 1.8 is aimed through a gap between buildings . same spot that i setup the Alcoa 1.8 in the past - and i,m losing a small percentage of signal at the bottom left the dish from a rather thick gatepost. a few metres from the dish . Only one transponder held constant .. (The encrypted sky news one - l.o.l. )

The 4104 H frequency is listed as having FEC of 3/4, it is a major achievement to get even an unstable lock on that with a 1.8m dish, that is extreme fringe reception at its best.

It was a very good weather day ... I will be having another try at some point .. :)
