Intelsat and Hispasat to share the new satellite in 55.5° West

Hernan Amaya | October 22, 2014
The satellite companies Intelsat and Hispasat will share the capacity of the new satellite Intelsat 34, which will be launched during the second half of 2015 and will occupy the 55.5° West orbital position. This agreement will reinforce the DTH services of both companies.

According to the press release distributed by both companies, they will both share the Ku band capacity over Brazil. The Intelsat 34 owns a total of 22 transponders in C band to cover America and Europe and 18 transponders in Ku band to provide services in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Brazil, Europe and part of the US.

Both companies started a collaborative relationship this June, when Hispasat’s Amazonas 1 and Intelsat’s Galaxy 11 started sharing the 55.5° West orbital position. These two satellites will continue to be placed there until the end of 2015.

“The reach of our agreement in the mid and long term will provide higher security to our customers about the continuity of the services we are providing from 55.5° West”, stated Hispasat’s CEO, Carlos Espinós.

Intelsat 34 In-orbit testing will be on 51.5°W, afterwards move to 55.5°W.

Interesting Ku band beam - extends from beyond California to Sweden and Poland!

intelsat 34 as soon ready to launch next week

Big troubles during the last couple of days at Space-Track.org, the primary source of TLE's.
They are still not fully recovered from whatever error that went into their update system.
That means some satellites are still not being updated.

But according the last TLE of 28 August, Intelsat 34 will have arrived at 51.5°W on that same day.

First tests (the only TXP on test all the afternoon long, till now...)

Intelsat 34 left the 51.5°W test position, is near 52°W now.
Will be at 55.5°W on 1 October, as it looks with current TLE.
