Invacom Quad 0.5db

I know that the Invacom quad 0.3db is the best LNB for fringe. Anybody know how good the 0.5db quad from Invacom is in comparison. A friend can get one of these for about £15 and thinks it may be worth it. Access to the dish is awkward so we don't want to try then have to replace. TIA

I take it you mean the older black coloured version.....They are ok, but I think the youngest one will be about 4 or 5 years old, so it may be false economy to buy something that may be on its last legs.

It is a gray QDH-051 model and it is brand new. similar to

I think somehow the info and the pdf are quite old. Invacom no longer make LNB's in grey cases, and haven't done for some time, neither do they make a 0.5db model.
It is probably very old unsold stock.

In my experience the grey ones were better,so if its unused then get it.Over here the average life is about 3 years then they start to drop signal .

I agree the grey case invacoms were better but the biggest problem i noticed with the invacoms is that after a couple of years the local oscilator starts playing up....I have replaced at lest a dozen because of this problem.

I'd recommend replacing your LNB at least every two years, preferably one year, if you are out on the fringe in a hot country. No LNB likes being fried at 38 degrees for three months.

Yep, they ask the world for them. But in fairness they are, in my experience, pretty good with faulty goods returns - I don't bother with the Invacom wholesalers here - I just send them straight back to invacom. I've never had so much as a quibble out of them!

You are spot on snap...the oscilator drifting is most probably due to extreme temperatures the LNB is subjected...in our case (Cyprus) the temperatures rise well above 38 in the peak of summer months..
This oscillator drifting in extreme temperatures is predicted in some independent invacom test reports (+/- 3 Mhz) but the box cannot tolerate the drift when it rises above +/- 6-7 Mhz...

We get regular temperatures of 35 degrees plus here during the summer, and it can go over 40.

My experience is similar - LNBs start going off after a couple of years. Also, LNBs only seem to fail in the summer, never the winter - for the same reason.

Somebody has (semi seriously) suggested a water cooling jacket for the LNB. I'm not quite sure how it would work, but maybe it's not so daft as it seems at first sight.
