Can anyone tell me, does the Black Ultra lnb have any improvement or advantage on the Black Premium I have just installed with a 1.2m offset dish?
Or would a C120 and Feedhorn do better on this dish?
Any feedback appreciated, thanks.
 
I can not compare it to the black premium as Ive never used one,but the ultra was recommended to me for fringe recteption and I can say that the black ultra has to be one of the best lnb`s on the market and the best ive ever used on my triax 1.1 dish
 
When I installed my Laminas 1.2M dish the other week, I tried a C120 + Feedhorn, a Smart Titanium and a Black Ultra. The results were exactly in that order; C120 worst, Smart a bit better but the Black Ultra by far the best. Be warned, it may not improve something that already gives you a good signal, but if you have a TP that's just lurking below the level at which your tuner will lock the signal, the Black Ultra will pull it in. It's not a miracle worker and does need some fine tuning to find the best focal point on your dish but you will reap the rewards.
 
The only way to find out for sure is to try it out. In my experience the Black ultra gives an improvement much of the time, but not always.
 
Fitted a black ultra on a 1m motorised dish a week or so ago, to replace an MTI Blue label, gave a significant improvement on hard to receive channels and made some transponders appear, which had not scanned prior to fitting on difficult satellites.
 
it also works well for me too, fitted it to my channel master dish and found it to have improved some channels. I can get the news feeds on 10e for example and mbc channels on a 90cm dish

Thanks to you all, seems like the way to go.
I had installed the 1.2m dish to beat rain fade ( total drop out actually) from a Triax TD110 on Tring, 16e, here in Donegal.
The satellites either side of it, 13e & 19.2e, were booming in really strong on both dishes, especially the 1.2, as you can imagine, the spectrum traces were off the top of the scale.
16e, however was, and still is, fairly weak, although the 1.2 with the Black premium gave a 8-10% increase in strength at the receiver, reading 76% on the receiver (TM1500). 65-70% used to be enough to beat the rain on 0.8w Digi tv, so I am worrried it may still not be enough. Unusually, we are having a dry spell at the moment, so no rain to put it to the test!
Incidentally, the previous installer had used the new type Sky quad lnb and lashings of tape on the TD110, amazing!
Anyway I must try to source a Black Ultra and try that to see if I can lift it a bit more.

I am also thinking of buying an Inverto Black Ultra.

1) Does it come with a "weather boot" to stop rain getting to the F connector?

2) Which is a reliable UK source for this - want to be sure I get a brand new one.

Hi m8..u say the previous installer used a sky quad..a big no no as the sky quad has an oval scaler ring and wont illuminate all the dish area!! they are for oval sky dishes only...hence the poor performance..

They come with a 'pull down' cover.

At least two of the site sponsors sell them, southernsatellite and sateuropa. I can recommend them both.
 
Just fitted my single to my 80cm dish and seen around a 25% increase in signal on a lot of the weaker channels over my Technomate .1 gold, amazing LNB :D
Comedy central HD used to get around 55% now I get 80% +

Yes but a real pain to put four strips onto a quad or quattro!
 
As you can see from the attached photo, the built in 'wet weather cover' actually does a really good job. You can always use tape to make extra certain.

By the way, always keep a 'slip on' about your person, better safe than sorry :-rofl2

I agree, like knitting fog, you have to use a small terminal driver to thread it between the outputs. I used to use the gell filled clip-on weatherboots from cpc. I don't think they make them anymore and could be a bit big for multi outputs anyway.
 
The waterproofing around the connector, eg self amalg or boot, or pull down only really helps to keep the outside of the connector looking 'nice', using connectors with waterproofing inside, eg O'ring or gel (never used myself??) keeps the connecttion itself free from moisture related problems.
 
I use rubber boots on mine

Blimey, I bought two Black Ultras, and neither came with one of those slip-ons 'O'-red

Really?? You have to 'pinch' the section covering the F connection and pull it down. I must admit I didn't think there was a cover until someone on here told me about it.
