HI all,

Been googling around but can't really find what I'm looking for.

I live in Sweden and we have excellent fibre broadband. Astra 1N has let me down so looking to try the streaming route in the least painful way.
I have a VPN which works ok. Looking to have 1 remote and no fuss when wanting to spend the evening with BBC1.

These boxes from Amino look good but can't even find a basic demo on Youtube.

I guess I need a DD-WRT router and a STB. Just want to know if anyone has actually done this, what they did and how good was the quality.

Many thanks in advance..

It`s not a STB solution but you could use _http://www.tvcatchup.com to stream live TV online, it would work in the same way as a STB only using a PC or laptop connected to the TV, you would need a UK IP address but if you have a VPN that should do it

Thanks but it's exactly that what I'm trying to avoid. Looking for convenience. Ie.my 4 year old can get up in the morning and put on cbeebies for example. I have tvcatchup. Works well but never use it because of the inconvenience.

Well if you have a UK VPN then you can receive cbeebies as it is transmitted live from here
-http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/watch/cbeebieslive.shtml
but as for getting your 4 year to use a computer I don't really know
There currently is no UK IPTV system available that is legal that I know of

Then you're really looking at a Slingbox solution.

I've played with a laptop at thre receiving end as well as a Sling Catcher and a Boxee Box. The latter two feed into a TV so can be viewed by many people. A laptop can be viewed by a single person and, if it has suitable connections, can feed into a TV. How easy it is to set up the TV connection depends on the laptop. Comparing a Sling Catcher and a Boxeee Box I would say that the Sling Catcher is easier to use but a Boxee Box is more useful at other times. Both are media players but the Boxee Box can play many more audio and video files.

As far as Internet connections and speeds are concerned the faster the better but a reasonable picture can be obtained with an uplink speed of 1Mbps. Downlink speeds are not usually a problem but should exceed the upload speed. There can be a delay between sound and vision which can be a pain.

Thanks for your replies and tips. I was convinced that there must be a IPTV STB out there. I'll keep searching!

Stockholm. Thanks. Curious.

there are componies that stream free view.
i tested it years ago and it works with a sling box.
you can type free view providers uk or iptv uk and there should be a ton by now.
they can set up a test on your pc and you can later but a sling box
