Hi guys,

This maybe a newbie question but if I have an Irdeto CAM/card (Irdeto 1?) but the channel is specified to have Irdeto 2 encryption, will the CAM/card decrypt the channel?

Thanks Jack. It does seem to be the case.

Just for future reference, is there a difference when something says Irdeto and another says Irdeto 2?

Technically, they should all work in the same CAM. The 1/2/3 etc. denomination refers more to card security rather than the underlying encryption, which largely remains the same. The CI+ allows a more a secure communication between receiver and CAM, which leaves it less susceptible to hacking. They also have the ability to pair a card to that one CAM so it will not work outside it, even in another CI+ CAM.

Thanks Jack that's cleared that up!

Looks like I've got the wrong channel and frequency though. D'uh sorry! The one I'm meant to be looking at is CT Sports HD which is Astra 23.5 12363 Mhz V. That seems to be under the 'Towercom' package.

Hi all, hope I'm not hi-jacking this post but will a I2 card work in a Dreambox?
(Located in South Africa)

Dreambox, if it has a CI+ compatible slot, should work with the said card. Whether you'll get Skylink signal is another question (to which the answer is no).

For DSTV, you'll likely need a dedicated receiver - their cards are paired.

Which satellite, and channels, are you thinking of?
Do you mean the DSTV Africa channels, on 36E?
Code:
https://www.lyngsat.com/packages/DSTV-Africa.html

They are on the Sub-Sahara Africa beam, and not available, via satellite, in the UK:
Code:
http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/footprints/Eutelsat-36B-Sub-Sahara-Africa.html

Please provide more detailed information.

There's only 1 transponder which is available on a 1.2m dish and that's 12245H, which does carry SuperSports. Others need a bigger dish.

AFAIK, DSTV Irdeto 2 cards are paired to their receiver and there is no CI CAM available for those. I've seen a few resellers in the past for this package so there might still be some around. The channels choice will be limited though.

12245H receivable with 120cm (in the UK)?
What's the explanation for that and why not the other sub-sahara transponders?(some have even better FEC).

12245H is available on 1.2m dish in the south of UK but it's marginal. I can get 12054H on my 1.8m as well but it's even more marginal!

There is often a marked difference in reception footprint capabilities when comparing theoretical to reality and there can be any number of reasons for it

Wasn’t there someone on this forum who had the DSTV package for a while on a 2.4m dish ? Think they were in Wales

I remember back in the old days someone in Nigeria could receive Astra 1A.
It was limited to a small strip north to south. A few kilometers to the west or the east and signal was gone.
So could be something like that, or the footprint (with larger dishes) extends futher than the satellite provider whats you to beleive.

I can't get a signal on my 150 cm dish, but 36E is probably partly behind buildings. The Eurasia transponders are also not as strong as they should be.
