Would be nice to hear about both lives. Since life for many with the 500hd has been horrible

Can an admin please move this to general dreambox forum as it is not DM500HD specific.

This is very useful for people who might get screwed with a 500hd, and think about getting an 8000.

I have 800 and 500hd not 8000 but they all use the same firmware and are set up and run in the same manner.

The difference is the hardware that each box provides.

I am sure DMM are fully aware of the problem with the 500hd so if you are worried I would suggest you wait a while until the problem dies down.

Im sure life is good with both. the 500 hd is deffinitley a winner.

I just cant see the point of this thread

I have both. The 8k has advantages: HDD, USB, CF, 2 (soon 4) tuners
The 500HD is SMALL
That's about it!

I know you got a clone.

Nobody in the whole world are going to buy satelite for reciver 1100 euro?
and two of them. It just a machine. After 10 years Its unusable can´t You see that the compaines Earns Money when New technology comes. I think that dream mulitmedia Will Release An dreambox 9000s 3D.
Still Only pepole with no brain Buy machine for that price.
the dreambox 8000s Is the biggest earing That dream mutlimedia Ever earned.

@com975: It is not in the spirit of this forum to call people stupid. I think you should retract that.
Some people have a lot of money, so why should they not buy a DM8000.
I would not buy a DM8000 as I think the DM500HD is a winner and if I needed more tuners, I would just buy more of them.

Maybe you right

But if pepole buy a machine a for 1100 euro

when you can get the A simllar one for 200 euro Why not get it.

Even so what for is gonna watch 1 channel record 3?

this is unesscary and even the dvd you can get a Dvd player for 20 euro? what is going on To pepole.

Why not send some money to africa they need it instead of a company.?

Dream Mulitmedia Is proud of that Dreambox is the most popular cardshare reciver.
They are so proud that they wil contiue Produece them.

Around fifteen years ago some people paid far more than that for a UK version of a US receiver that cost less than a tenth after duty was paid. All it had was a different badge and a new plug-in chipset.

Nothing changes.

Thread moved to General section as originally requested.

The DM8000 should not be compared with the old school Chaparral Montereys adn especially not the ones from SCT, the Montereys series were high end enthusiast receiver for DX people, the DM8000 is cheaply made and used for cardsharing, it got no hardware blindscanning, no 36V motor built-in bla bla bla....

Closest to the old Montereys today are Reelbox Avantgarde II, highend quality with great hardware with mediocre software, however it still lacks some but is technically a much more advanced receiver than DM8000 is.

So yes the DM8000 is scary priced for what you get, is it worth the money over DM800? no they run the same firmware and the DM800 is smaller, paying twice the price for modular tuners and some more USB/CF ports is just crazy.

I bought a Vu+ Duo last week and have a mediaplayer Popcorn Hour C200 which is the best of both worlds on current market.

Well i had Monterey 20 and 40 and later the fully loaded SCT500 and they are not similar to a DM8000, far from, SCT even had a DVB-S card for the Montereys which worked pretty well and 5-slots card reader, low threshold extension card etc, it was a true enthusiast receiver.

The Monty weighted nearly 20 kg and the DM8000 weights under 10 kg.

I always buys amplifiers according to weight which is a good rule to follow if you want a well built amplifier, the same goes with sat receivers, the Reelbox Avantgarde II weighs close to 20 kg as well....

These days it's all about cardsharing when it comes to dreamboxes which they are good at with their native Cccam support.

as pointed out you can now have dual tuner with dm800 via usb and also can connect hard disk via esata. dm500hd, no usb internal disk you don't want to use. so (and this is my version) the dm800 is simply the best. i know many will disagree, but while i have much grief with the dm800, the minute i compare it to the alternatives, i really find the alternatives aint great.

There are only two alternatives today, DM800 or Vu+ Duo, your choice.
