Is this possible?

At _http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/Pakistan.html it gives a list of channels from Pakistan.

Specifically I am interested in being able to watch (FTA?) Aaj TV, ARY Digital Asia, ARY One World, ARY Zauq TV (though that is on "******"), Dawn News, Dunya News (if possible), and all of the GEO channels.

Can these be picked up in Birmingham?

Are they FTA?

How much does it cost (roughly) and what do I need? E.g. a motorised dish? is there a "FAQs" for beginners? Any recommendations as to who could install it?

What satellites can be received here?

Would really like to be able to pick up ******, Nilesat etc.

Would like to hear from anyone else who has experience of trying to do this.

Thanks.

Its not possible to watch the channels on any of the satellite serving the Indian sub continent. A few of the channels are available on the Sky UK pay platform, although you will need to subscribe to them.

One or two of the channels are available in the clear on other European satellites as well, but you need to decide whats worthwhile on your budget.

As for Nilesat if you are hoping for the football you will need a very big dish indeed - you are looking at something in the region of 1.8 - 2.4m diameter in the garden!

Not interested in the football.

Just wanted to pick up the Pakistan feeds of the Pakistani channels.

Don't really want Sky.

Do you know if there is a list of all Pakistani channels and the satellites they are on and whether they can be received here.

What does it usually cost? Is it more expensive than Sky+?

What then is the advantage in having a motorised/big dish. Does it sit in the garden or against the back wall of the house?

Of course there is a list of Pakistani channels :)

Ignore the channels on Intelsat 68E & Pak-sat 38E - its not really feasible to get them in the UK. The ones on Nilesat will require a very big dish indeed in the Midlands.

Really disappointed about Intelsat 10 (IS-10) (68.5E). That's what prompted me to start looking into this. No way of getting it in the UK? Not even with a massive dish? Where's it transmitting from?

This seems a good site: _http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?lat=52.4829323&lng=-1.8936213&phrase=Birmingham,%20England

Looking at the page you referred to, it means there is very little available here?

Unless you can get away with a 3m dish (it doesn't have to be an expensive one, but it will almost certainly have to be installed on a flat roof), you will not get reliable reception of 68.5 East for the channels you want.

68E is almost on the horizon in the UK, so unless you have an absolutely ideal view out to the SE horizon (absolutely flat with no houses, hills, blocks of flats or trees in the way) then you wont get it. The channels you want are also transmitting in C-band so will need a far bigger dish than normal. I dont haver the exact downlink powers for that C-band transmission here but you are probably looking at at least a 2m dish to successfully receive them

I'm planning to receive 38E - very curious, what they do broadcast on VH1 Pakistan (which is FTA there)

I wonder if anyone else has got this set up?

Not sure doubt i have a clear run to the SE. How can i check?

Worth a shot? What do you think it would cost?

PS Haven't got a flat roof high enough. May be set up a flat platform for it above the house?

Pak-sat is 38E. Bombed One is located out near the Caspian Sea so its possible in his area.!

:-rofl2

Just what do you think the neighbours and the local planning enforcement people are going to say if you put up a platform and stick a 10 foot diameter dish on it???? Do you realise just how big a 10 foot dish is?? Its bloody enormous!

Hm, does neighbour's opinion counts in such cases? here, everyone prefers to care own business, so I may erect whole Big Ben tower in my backyard, if I wish, and if it won't pose direct danger to neighbour buildings, etc.

Well for any dish over 1m in diameter you need really need planning permission - which costs over 100UKP. Anyone can object to the new development, and it will be considered by the local planning dept.

There is no way whatsoever of getting permission for a suitable sized tower and 3m plus dish in an urban environment in the UK.

To make matters worse if I erected a big tower in the garden the council can demand removal, and if I dont the council will come in, remove it for me - then send me the bill for the work done!!

very interesting...

you have greater capabilities, both financial and technical (able to purchase/install more expensive hardware), but also you have greater limits...

Yes - and more space limitations too. Remember the UK is a badly overcrowded island and certainly in towns and cities theres no space to put big dishes up. The average semi detached house had a pocket handkerchief sized garden, and the trend for houses with big gardens is to sell the garden off for more building... :(

Point taken.

So it really is a no go then.

I'm real gutted...............

Its a no go Im afraid. The best you will be able to do is watch the ones on the powerful European sats. If you want the Geo channels they are about 15 quid a month stand alone subscription on the Sky UK platform.
