Is this possible?

Dear Group, forgive me if this is a silly question, but we all have to start somewhere!

Just suppose i got myself a Sky Digi-box with the card to enable me to get CH4 & 5. If i were to use a bigger dish would i then be able to access European FTA stations as well?

Many Thanks

Only if you swing the dish around to look at them, or add a couple of extra LNbs on an offset arm. The digibox is not great when it comes to viewing non-Sky channels, you need to add them in other channels and the limit is 50, plus there is no switching capability, so you would need to install an A+B switch or change the inputs. The digibox is also limited in its reception settings, so will not be capable of receiving all of the FTA channels.

Thanks for the speedy reply Rolf, i think i understand what you mean. My family would be quite happy just to have the digi-box plus the card thingy but my only thought was that it would be nice if i could also get German and Spanish Broadcasts as both my kids are studying those languages at school.

If thats not possible is there any real advantage in me having a digi-box as opposed to a freeview box?

Thanks

PS, while i think about it! I've read that the digi-box is connected to a phone line! Is that correct? As a security conscious computer geek i'm pretty wary about programs or devices "phoning home"
For what i need would it have to be connected to the phone?

Thanks Again

have another dish put up for astra 1 19east or 13east if you want the foregin language stuff and a separate reciever

As wod says, get a dish and separate receiver for Astra 19.2E German and Spanish channels and use a Freeview box for your terrestrial needs. :)
