ITV / C4 & possible beam changes affecting fringe reception areas

Stranger by the hour. Possible reduced downlink power I wonder.

Could it be that the 2A&B North beam side lobe which used to be over Corfu and Sicily/Malta has been moved South East, this could account for improved reception in Crete and Central Italy.

Just a theory.

...and a reduced signal in the South west. Ah, so maybe the downlink beam has been reduced or shifted more towards the East.

In this case the move would be intentional, maybe to allow ITV to stop using encryption on those regions?

No - they need to be on 2D to go fta.

was just wondring how are getting ESPN (12.304) accross those fringe areas??

Reading this thread got me fiddling. I haven't been able to receive anything from the north beams for several months. Two days ago I even deleted all those channels from my receiver. Anyway I just had a check and there was just a sniff of signal (S20, Q30). Played with the dish alignment. When I go 5 clicks (Jaegar 1224) to the east of having 2D nailed I get S65, Q99. Tried the same going west and a similar thing happens , this time S40, Q80. Downloaded the latest TLE's and all satellites are within 0.05º of their correct positions.

Could it be that the power output of one (or more) of the transponders on the south beam has increased and is flooding the receiver, knocking out north beam reception for some people? Doesn't explain signal increase to the east though.

Umm I wonder - can someone blind scan 31E and see if anything new has fired up on Turksat 1C or Astra 2C??

I know the old Turksat is putting out a big signal - she can be picked up on badly aligned Sky dishes here in the UK!

Hi All. I receive Channel 4 Itv in Gozo Malta but only periodically through the day ie Channel 4 from 6pm to 830pm. ITV is stronger with only minor break up in the morning. Channel 4 was always been on the edge with my system but I now receive just pixallation most of the day where as before I would only loose the pic when it rained. So the signal is still there for these channels but slightly weaker. If you optimize your setup it can be sorted:)

Please excuse my non technical post but I have limited knowledge of how the whole system works.

But, someone asked if channels had been lost in Greece.

I can confirm that in the last 2 days we have lost Channel 4, More4, E4, TT4, Blighty and ITV1 which we watched using the 'Other Channels' option. However, we have gained SKY Arts2.

We are just not receiving a signal anymore.

Hope this information helps people work out what has happened.

Puzzling, could be looking at reduced beam pattern rather than a shift :-HB

I am also in Corfu, Greece, and I still have channel 4 and E4. At the moment I stillhave ITV although it keeps breaking up. I have a 1.20m dish, if this makes a difference.

That doesn't explain why some areas are receiving significant increases in signal.

I did a blind scan of 31.5E and there is nothing there except a bit of breakthrough from Arabsat 2B. Anyway I don't think it is a signal from another satellite because the people affected are people with big dishes. Just checked again with my 1.5m dish and I can't receive the north beam when the dish is pointed straight at the Astra 2 cluster but I am getting Q99 a few clicks either side of the centreline.

I noticed today that Fox News (Ch 509 on Astra 2B North) had stopped working. On further investigation it seems that a whole raft of Astra 2B North beam channels that I used to be able to get have gone - but in compensation many new Astra 2A North beam channels have become receivable. Previously I could only get tp40 from Astra 2A North (12480V) with Channel 4+1 etc
The list of changes is as follows:
2A North Channels now receivable :
133 Gold+1
155 Watch+1
158 Dave ja vu
209 Alibi +1
211 Bio HD UK
247 Home+1
250 Good food Channel+1
335 Sky Movies Action and Thriller HD
534 Blighty
544 Nat Geo Wild HD
545 History HD UK
840 Sikh Channel

2B North Channels that have gone:
193 FX UK HD
257 Sky Arts 2
258 SkyArts 1 HD
360 4Music
362 Smash! Hits TV
363 Magic
368 Kerrang!
509 Fox News
536 Discovery HD Europe
631 Disney Cinemagic UK HD

Can anyone this end of the med (Israel or Cyprus) confirm - Langsat don't as yet show any changes.

To avoid duplication of info Ive merged this into the existing Cyprus discussion :)

Since yesterday we have had a 3 dBM increase in signal on:
12480V Ch4, Ch4+1, More4, E4, etc group.
12402V ITV1 (all regions)
All 27500, 2/3

We can now get those channels 24/7, which before were variable.
However, we cannot get Fox News (SKY Ch 506) now, breaking up.

I wonder if the 2A/2B satelites have been repositioned, to get Outer Hebrides etc a better signal, which has also improved the coverage here in Cyprus??!!

Any comments folks?
Geoff
