h whilst browising for a new reciver a site told me one could recive itv an astra 2 i sent an email wondering as i cant pick it up he said"its comeing soon" is this true and if so when is it comeing rember i am in ireland not the uk

As far as I know ITV are still in talks with Sky over the encryption of their signal.

The BBC have gone Free-to-air on Satellite but ITV still require a card and Sky receiver.

I hope they go FTA - what site was it?

Even if they did go to fta,it doesnt mean they would change their signal does it?When bbc went fta they made their signal weaker(for those of us out of uk).

They actually moved to another satellite and changed the footprint to a much tighter beam to try and stop users outside the UK from receiving the signal - unless they put up extremly large dishes.

I think ITV would certainly do the same.
 
ITV are already there (2D), so it really is only a matter of whether they can face the flack from the US programme providers about regional copyright.

presuming they stay on Astra2D then you will 100% be able to pick up the signal in cork. It would be next to impossible to have good reception in the UK and not good in ireland. it is very likely they will go FTA. They basically sat back to see what type of flack the BBC would get when they went FTA, and they seem to have gotten away with it. A date is undecided yet. What IS promising is that the new channel, ITV3, is FTA.

Also, you dont need that much of a bigger dish to get ITV/BBC in Europe. i receive perfecrtly with a 60cm dish.

some advice greg , from one cork man to another about the receiver : buy a dreambox. you will thank me , believe me!

ITV has signed another temporary renewal to its carriage contract with Sky as the dispute between the two broadcasters rumbles on.

The extension will run through April, when independent regulator Ofcom is expected to report back on the situation.

ITV asked Ofcom to investigate what it called "unfair, unreasonable and unduly discriminatory" terms offered by Sky for the regionalisation of ITV1 across the UK. Sky is asking for an estimated £17m for ITV's encryption and regionalisation, in comparison to the £4m the BBC pays for regionalisation alone.

ITV confirmed today that the existing contract had been renewed for a further three months pending Ofcom's ruling. "ITV has agreed a further temporary extension to its existing regionalisation and encryption deal with BSkyB," a spokesman told C21.

"[This] means that ITV1 continues to be regionalised and, unless it opts otherwise, encrypted on the digital satellite platform pending the outcome of Ofcom’s investigation into the price BSkyB should charge ITV1 for the provision of a regionalisation service only."
