Last Saturday, during the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] Arqiva Channel of the Year Awards held at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, the awards for both a channel's achievements and a show's achievements were given out.

ITV1 took the coveted Terrestrial Channel of the Year award for the very first time. Last year, Channel 4 held the prize. ITV1's success is being attributed to hit shows like Downton Abbey and Coronation Street.

Channel 4 did not go home empty handed, however. The Inbetweeners took home the Digital Programme of the Year award for the second year. The comedy show was also made into a feature film that was just released last week. The E4 comedy/drama Misfits also took home the Network & Fast Track Programme Choice award.

BBC Also did quite well. BBC One's Sherlock, which just recently won a Bafta award, won for Best Terrestrial Show. BBC Three won Digital Channel of the Year for the second year in a row. The award was attributed to the channel's exemplary coverage of music festivals, such as Glastonbury, as well as shows like Young, Dumb and Living Off Mum. Also, BBC Three's Rob Leech was commended for his documentary, My Brother the Islamist.

The Indie of the Year went to Talkback Thames, and Million Pound Drop's play-along game, Endemol Games took home the Cross-platform Innovation Award.
