jaeger 99G motor - severe wind damage

Took down a TD110 rigged up on a 36V jaeger 99G motor. Not mounted particularly high up but was hanging off the roof after a severe wind spell last month.

Any pre-existing weaknesses like loose or corroded fasteners?

No, this one just very exposed and hit by a strong winds.

what did you replace with a gibby and polar mount ?

i have this motor but never used it glad i hadn't if that's what strong wind will do to it

Yes the polar mount and jack would stand up better in those conditions.

The rig was taken down, new home owner.

I was lucky when my 99G failed as I think the wind hit it square on and buckled it backwards. I straighted the inclination bolt and the bracket and welded some extra support, its been fine for years but I wouldn't use it with a solid dish, has to be mesh (perforated) in an exposed location. The main part of the motor is very well built in terms of the pole and gearbox which is diecast, but the pole mounting bracket is just not upto the job, they haven't used a thick enough gauge of steel.

Not as well built as its predecessor the 90U, but much quieter, although its still a noisy fecker compared to a Diseqc mount and has a slight amount of hysteresis. But its extremely quick and very reliable after fifteen years, so I'm not quite ready to chuck mine in the bin just yet.

Looking at the photo, the cause appears to be one missing bolt, it might have sheared, but unless you could find it, there is a chance it just wasn't done up tight and came adrift.

The Jaeger looks useable if the base plate can be repaired.
