Iran's Jam-e Jam 1 Satellite: What You Should Know
Iran's state broadcaster has launched its first dedicated geostationary satellite, 'Jam-e Jam 1', internationally registered as 'Iran DBS', which officials have described as a significant step toward enhancing the country's space-based media capabilities.
The satellite belongs to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB ) and was sent into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on February 13.
It successfully reached orbit shortly after launch aboard a Proton-M rocket, which also carried a Russian weather satellite.
The satellite was developed to provide interactive audio and video transmissions to terrestrial public broadcasting centers, thereby forming the basis for future interactive mass media services.
According to the current schedule, Jam-e Jam 1 is expected to be maneuvered and positioned in its designated orbital slot at 34 degrees East within three weeks. Authorities say this location will ensure optimal coverage for the IRIB's communication needs.
The Jamjam satellite is expected to reach its orbit in about a week.
Recently, a satellite named "Jamjam" was launched into space by Iran and is now on course for a geostationary orbit at 34 degrees East longitude.
For the first time in history, this satellite is to be used as a "national television satellite."
It is likely that after reaching orbit at 34 degrees east longitude, the public broadcasters will transmit via this satellite.
Due to sanctions, state broadcasters are cut off from most heavily used satellites like Hotbird and Eutelsat and are currently only available via the satellites "Arabsat," the Russian satellite "Intelsat," and the Thai satellite "Thaicom."
