Oddly, I have just been reading an article in a paper today where she mentioned her lack of mobility meaning she could only take on parts where she was sleeping in bed.
First heard her in the 50's as Eth to Dick Bentley's Ron in BBC radio's 'Take It From Here' - "ooh, Ron!"
