My Satellite Setup
A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.
My Location
UK
Inside the receiver is a circuit that mimics a PCMCIA module, and the design means it can accept firmware upgrades either by satellite, a rear panel connection or a special interface

The receiver is programmed to act like it has a Magic Module Cam within it

Some are good, some not so good, there are a lot of reports of receivers breaking when an upgrade is attempted, and odd characteristics occurring with particular channels.

Recommending these receivers is rather a hit and miss affair as the supplier / importer, may not have the most professional technical team to iron out bugs that are discovered.

Dont forget, the Magic Cam principle is not a design that is authorised by the broadcasters as it is seen as a 'hackers' tool (even though it has legitimate uses as well). The receiver manufacturer is rarely in charge at the point of sale in the UK, and so any problems found can take time to resolve completely, if at all.
