Just ordered a DM800 - help please!

Well i finally gave in and ordered a DM800 to replace my old DM7000. I see that the 800 takes 2.5" HDDs so not got one of those yet - have to live with just a 4GB USB device (from DM7000!).

Now, I have done a fair bit of reading but what should I put on it when the thing arrives? I would like multi-boot (just like my DM7000 with FlashWizard) but understand that flash wizard does not run with Enigma2 - so what is Barry Allen please?

Do I leave the factory installed option in flash, then get Black hole 0.9 for USB after installing Barry Allen on USB too? How? Do I have to start with a clean (linux formatted) USB stick - or what?

The 800 is quite small in size and you will have cooling problems, depending on the climate in your location, especially in summer. Things will get worse when you install the HDD.
I use a a reasonably quite ventilator on a stand which cools my 7000S and other AV equipments. Cleaning it once in a while from accumulated dust and fluff seems to make it less noisy. Without it the receiver would have died years ago.

Hi there. Its a nice receiver but does run hot, a little like the hot platters in one of those burger vans outside the football ground.

Now, the serious stuff. I and many others will recommend installing Nabilo Blackhole currently at V0.9. However if you wish to go with multiboot on usb then nabilo supply an image know as pure flash which has barry allen built in.

IF you want to install this ensure your usb stick is connected when you flash the box as the barry allen installation runs automatically after booting from your newly installed nabilo pureflash. Barry allen is the enigma2 multiboot utility, its great. You don't need to do anything with your USB stick, it will format it as part of the install. Once you have this installed you can go ahead and setup barry allen by launching it from the plugin menu.

I see you're a fellow UK man, if you intend running a Sly UK card in the DM800 then please do let me know here. There's a driver update you'll need to install, but you need to install it to your flash image before installing barry allen. Just a little niggle but easily solved. Enjoy the DM800 and feel free to ask for help or advice.

Gulp - I had read that the newer 800s ran less hot - I've never had to cool my 7000S so maybe, just maybe, my location will be OK (it's in a north facing room that never gets very warm - brrrrr!! - having said that, the only HD TV is in the back, south facing, room - doh!). Hmmm - may get an external eSata drive then in the future rather than an internal one!

Yep - from UK - so would like to know how to get my sly card being read via 800. Many thanks. So, I put Nabilo Pure Flash into flash (with BA built in) and then Nabilo BH 0.9 on USB? Or, do I just use Nabilo pure flash on USB and leave DM standard firmware in flash?

Never use factory image mate. Flash nabilo pureflash then apply updates then reinstall barry allen.

Any chance of checking the following plan of action and commenting on my order/correcting me?

1) Update flash to Nabilo PureFlash 25-Feb-09 (includes old ver of BA)
2) Update BA to latest ver (4.6.97 as far as I can tell)
3) Somehow install Nabilo BH to USB (ver 0.9)

Now, I read that I should ensure 2nd Stage bootloader is at v72 - at what point do I do this?

I also read that I should "update drivers" (ver 10-03-2009) - at what point do I do this and how?

Just to reassure you the heat problem is easily fixed with various methods. Personally I use a cpu fan connected to a usb lead and just set the fan on top of my 800. This method blows cool air into my 800. I set it on the vents above the tuner, this gets way hotter than the internal hard drive, without cooling. Works a treat! and its practically silent. The highest temp I have seen on my Hard Dive is 38C and that was after a heavy Hi Def session. Normally around 35/36.

Cant help with multi boot as BlackHole 09 has everything I need. The way I look at it is the more software on it the more likelyhood of crashes and that aint good for C/S purposes. If you read the forums most crashes and problems with the 800 seem to stem from BA and inexperienced users. I know your not inexperienced so you will probably sail through it. Enjoy m8, I love mine and plenty of good advice from guys like B16MCC will have you sorted in no time.
 
Hi mate. Right I got a little more time now. May I suggest this plan of action.

1. Do not insert USB stick into box yet and do not connect hard disk.
2. Flash box with latest Nabilo Pureflash using the Web interface method detailed here.

3. Run through basic setup wizard and be sure to enable the network. Once you have completed the basic setup wizard Barry Allen installer will start automatically. However this will fail after a minute or two because it has no where to install to. That is what we want at this point.
4. Exit from any barry allen screens so the box is doing nothing.
5. Now you need to FTP an update file to your /tmp folder.
6. The file you need is 'dreambox-dvb-modules_2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800-20090310-r0_dm800.ipk' A search should find it easy enough.
7. Ok, now Login to the box via telnet, use Dreambox Control Centre or Putty if you're windows, or if you're Mac like me just use terminal.
8. Once you're in, type the following.

ipkg install /tmp/dreambox-dvb-modules_2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800-20090310-r0_dm800.ipk
Ok , thats the driver updated to allow you to read your Sly card in the internal reader. Now, connect your usb stick and reboot the box.

Lets update your SecondStage bootloader.
1. FTP 'dreambox-secondstage_72-r0_dm800.ipk' to /tmp
2. Telnet in and type the following.

ipkg install /tmp/dreambox-secondstage_72-r0_dm800.ipk
Thats you up to date !

Ok, lets install latest baz allen. Same applies really.
1. FTP the following file to /tmp 'enigma2-plugin-extensions-barryallen_4.6.96_mipsel.ipk'
2. Telnet in and type the following.

Code: 
ipkg install /tmp/enigma2-plugin-extensions-barryallen_4.6.96_mipsel.ipk
3. With barry allen installed, restart enigma2 and it will appear in the plugins menu.
4. Setup the link to your MB_Images folder and you're ready to go.
5. FTP nabilo blackhole to your MB_images folder.
6. In the barry allen menu, extract the image.
7. Reboot the box, choose blackhole 0.9 from the barry allen boot menu.

Job done.

I'm sure I will have more questions - but 2 more spring to mind already...

1) USALS - people say that they have not managed to do a full multi sat scan - they upload a settings file instead - is this true - should I not even try to do a scan/setup USALS? i have found a file i can use if it is better?

2) Heat probs - how will I know if it is overheating? Stupid question really - I guess the box will lock up etc?

Well - currently failing at step 2) Firefox and IE just time out (page cannot be displayed) when uploading the Pure image and so it never seems to complete - reboot DM800 and nothing has flashed - still with original DM image.

What should the web browser window show me while uploading/flashing? I just get a long progress bar in bottom of browser window, then page can not be displayed. TV screen shows nothing but black screen as DB not properly booted I guess :(

Any ideas?

make sure DHCP is enabled on the original image b4 you flash the pureflash.

Look at the firsrt sticky "Flash your dreambox 800 the easy Way" has all the pics of pc display and the 800 led display.

Just a thought. Have you a clone or original? Clones wont take 09 with a 72 bootloader
 
Hi,

Dhcp enabled in original dm firmware before I started. Stop message showed correct dhcp ip address. Web browser all seems fine but times out upping pure flash image. Not even got near 72 yet. Still on 67 I think as it was shipped. Paid over 400 for box so better not be a clone - gulp!

2nd stage actually more like 64 as shipped not 67. Could this be why I am having issues - shall I try 2nd stage to 72 first?
 
yes update the ss bootloader and you should be ok, I remember having to do something similar with 07, when upping from 05. I takes only 10 seconds..

Taken from Nabilo with someone having same trouble


I have experienced the same and I finally detected that the issue was the secondstage bootloader version.
For being able to flash via web interface you need to have at least the version 67 whereas mine was version 62.
Thus below you can find what I did:
1. Download the only secondstage-67.nif file from the dream multimedia site
2. Flash it with the web browser (it will work since this file is little)
3. Reboot your box in flash mode
4. Run the web browser
5. Check if now secondstage bootloader is version 67
6. Run the flash update that will take a while (1 or 2 minutes) to let appear the percentage bar for the process follow-up

It should work, at least form me it worked.
Now I am stucked with Barry Allen which is not installing.

He resolved the BA issue by initalizing his HD
 
So many thanks for all the help - I now have a DM800 (semi) working (not had too much time to play yet). Still can't get AUTO multisat scan going - I have to move motor, then scan in 2 different menus at mo, and 28.2E is missing so many channels :( I need Fiver and FiveUS to be able to test my $ly card but not showing as yet.

Anyhow - just wanted to detail what I did - pretty much spot on as B16MCC said and with help from tomthebomb1968 also!

I used 4.6.97 - again, I guess 97 is newer.

Hiya,

Me again - so now I would like to try BH 0.10 on USB and notice that they say it needs 2ndMay Pure Flash in flash. Not a problem I thought. Went to SS BL STOP DHCP on screen, tried to flash 2nd May Pure Flash (after backing up my settings from a stable/nice BH 0.9 on USB) but the uploading froze at 1.xx%. Tried a few times but each time it got stuck. Tried removing USB and tried again, this time it got to nearly 17% but frooze.

Luckily - it seems that no harm done, let the box reboot and BH 0.9 still works from USB - phew!

Last time (see above) it seems I could only flash properly with SS BL #70 - so I even tried to go back to that, but it still didn't work :(

Any ideas?

Interesting problem. I can only assume your network is dropping the connection for some reason. Is your router busy doing something else ?

Maybe try Dreamup to flash to May 2nd pureflash, then you can install BH0.10 to usb as normal.
 
Thanks - I think I have managed it - had to put SS BL #70 back on, used IE (gave up with FireFox) and it worked tonight - not sure why my 800 doesn't like anything but SS BL 70!

Next time I need to flash I am going to try dream up (if web if gives me more hassle) so what cable do I need (null modem or what?)

2) DM800 its ok with my router
3) I would like to see 28.2E
4) At the moment I can see only free channels.
5) Where can I get the cccam??
6) How to put the k**s???
7) Where can I find the K**s??
8) If I send PM can I get replay??

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm really confused, because I keep try very hard to sort this problem, and nothing.

Keys will not open encrypted channels on 28.2. You need to have card in your box or in a box that yours can access

To download CCcam press Green then Yellow/Downloads Addon Manager/Nabilo E2 Image Cams/ and select the one you want. Just follow the onscreen prompts for auto install. When installed press Blue and toggle right or left to select your cam then press ok.
