Hopefully will arrive within a couple of days. I will let people know how I get on. :)

This will replace my Humax HDCI-2000 which decided to retire this afternoon and this will be my first Dreambox.
After doing a bit of reading it seems that alot of downloading of cams etc can be done direct from the web via the dreambox's remote. I was only planning on connecting the 800 to my pc via a crossover cable and only using FTP to update and install stuff. I assume this is a valid option and it won't present any problems for me? For now I am thinking of flashing with the latest blackhole and installing a 2.5" drive (just realised the one I have spare is an IDE - balls).

Cheers,

Normsky

Good choice normsky. Be prepared for a little brain work to get yourself into the swing of things with the box. Plenty of advice available here on the forum.

Pity about your Humax, can't think what the problem is unless it was ageing power supply components.

Thanks Llew. I reckon the same. I wasn't even using it. Was reading a book. Look at the clock on the front of it one minute and it was fine. 30 minutes later it had dissappeared. Dead as a dodo on inspection. Oddly enough though when the power is connected the output from the spdif is still glowing like a good un. So assume just one of the power rails has given up the ghost.

Possible. Can you connect to your PC for uploading/downloading using Formula?

If you're handy with a multimeter, check the output voltages from the power supply in the accompanied attachment.
Circuit diagram is on the last page.

If one or more are missing or low, it's probably one of the electrolytics on one of the outputs.

One of the beauties of working from home is you can take a break when you want. :-)

Seems the culprit is the 32V line. It's down to 26.6V with no load.

The 12V line is also a bit suss - it's at 11.2V with no load. The rest are bang on.
Not sure what the tolerance is on that 12V line but for sure the 32V line is way under.

Could of course point to the windings aslo on their way out. Considering the cost of electrolytics though I'll swap them out first.

Page 12 in the service manual gives min/max specs for each output supply. Looks like your +32V is quite low - limits are +29-35V. Try replacing C110/111.

+12V can go down to +11.2. These voltages will no doubt be under load.

It's a very basic circuit. No chopper feedback circuit to shut down the supply if output voltages go awry. It'd pop the output diodes if there was a S/C on one of the supplies

Hope you don't mind me butting in Guys .....But there should be 12V on that line....probably C109 is the culprit unless IC 102 (12v Regulator) has weared out a bit. Should'nt think its the switched mode transformer though, otherwise all the Voltages will be messed up. As you said that 32 V line is down quite a bit...looks like either C111 or C110 have lost some of their capacity.

No problem with your input zorbua - that's what the forum's for!

If IC102 is getting hot with no load conditions, yes C109 is suspect.
