Humax HDR1100S Freesat Recorder. Octagon UHD satellite box with Gibertini 1m motorised dish. Triax TD78 for Freesat. Triax TD64 for Freesat to 3 rooms. 2 Panasonic Freeview+ HD recorders.

Hi everyone!

This morning I went to a ham radio rally and picked up a VU plus Solo 2 box with twin inputs. Not a one I'm familiar with, but it can take a 2.5 inch HDD internally and is HD! Can anyone tell me about it please? I have ordered a remote as there was not one present.

I've just opened the unit to blow all the dust out....and there is a 500GB drive fitted!!!! RESULT! All I need now is the remote!!

This was at Bowburn, just 4 miles from where I live. I paid £15 for the box and it has the power brick with it as well.
 
You need to load an Enigma 2 image, I recommend an early, (suitable), OpenBh image, as the VU+ solo 2, hasn't got the technical specifications for the latest features, but will work very well.
When you get the remote you can check the hard drive for any recordings, left on it.

You might also check if it's a genuine VU+ Solo 2, or a clone, there are guides, on the internet, showing what to look for.

You could try accessing it using your PC, you will need to find out the receivers allocated IP Address, using an early version of the DCC, Dreambox Control Centre, to search fo all IP Addresses on your network.

Once you've done that you can use Openwebif, to control your receiver, by typing the IP Address into an internet browser, like firefox.

I have no idea what an Enigma 2 image is! What exactly is that? Not really up on this! Anyway, I think the unit is an original!
 
Your receiver is an Enigma 2 based receiver, which can use numrous images, similar to computer software. It probably alread has an image installed.

Yes you can, as I previously posted.
If it already has an image installed:
Connect the receiver to your router.
Download DCC, Dreambox Control Centre, on your PC, and press the search option, to find your receivers IP Address.
Next open up a browser window, like Firefox, and type that IP address into the internet bar, e.g. 192.168.2.161

If you have the correct IP Address, the Openwebif should open, allowing you to use the virtual remote, to access your receiver.

So do I take the box will automatically download this, even without the remote?
 
Another thing you could try and download an app on your phone. I use e2RemoteLite on my iPhone.

Great idea....but I don't have a smartphone!! TRUE!
 
Your not on your own !! i had one but find it a pain to carry around, i've a lovely little phone that just makes calls and i dont know its in my pocket.:)

I have a basic 4G DORO flip phone and it's enough for me!!!
 
OKAY! Well the unit does actually work, but is very slow at responding to the remote. It has Openvix 5 (whatever that is). Any suggestions anyone?
 
Openvix is an Enigma 2 image, you can equate this to a Linux operating system, on a PC.
Seeing as you now have access have you checked if anything is recorded on the hard drive?
Have you set up your tuners?
