No, The English Keyboard doesn't have any of those funny foreign characters on it, as English is completely devoid of them, so there is no need. But thanks I will look into the the alt+ method. I think those characters are going to be a problem for me anyway, as I generally ignore their existance:-rofl2

Just a few tests:-

ó - ctrl/Alt/o
é - ctrl/Alt/e
á - ctrl/Alt/a
ú - ctrl/Alt/u
í - ctrl/Alt/i

Left Alt works as well as Alt Gr

Been thinking.... it would be better if i learned Spanish really.

I goto Cuba every year and sometimes spain too... ive never been to Portugal, although i keep meaning to to.

I know the languages are very similar... but how similar?
If you learn 1, does it then mean you can learn the other very quickly?

I would learn both... but since i have lived half my life English only, and never did any languages at school at all! I think its going to be very difficult, And i'm leaning more toward night school etc... Because i think i would learn quicker in a classroom situation, Than i would at home with too many distractions.
 
Having been learning Spanish for quite a while now (no formal training),
I don't have much of a problem reading it and understanding most of it.
Can't speak it or write it very well though, as I don't get the practice

But what I can say is, many of the Portuguese words are similar or the same. The grammatical structures look the same (on the surface), and so do the need for verb/noun agreements etc.

When I look in the Portuguese section, I can usually make out most of whats being said, excluding the text speak, shortened words slang etc, but not as well as I could if it was spanish.

I think that it's a good idea 'cause we all "love" to learn something new, don't we?
For example, i do speak Portuguese but i'm not portuguese. It's very easy to learn portuguese because i've learned it in less than a year(the basic stuff). If you wanna help with learning portuguese, i could help you...i don't mind.
By the way, there's an other idea:
Do you wanna learn Russian?

Learning a new language can be quite easy if you have native speakers willing to help.
Our Portuguese colleagues are really wonderful and I have seen the way they help each other so it makes learnig Portuguese worth it since there is always someone online to give you the right guidance.

I bought the Teachyourself course (book/CD) and it is worth it.

Thanks seliver, but one language at a time please.

Yea, 'cause you haven't the cirilic symbols on your keyboard...
But a simple example: in russian you can say hello by many words:
"здравствуйте" or "привет".
Anyway, portuguese language rules too!
"A língua portuguesa rula".

Just had a look at the site, but I'd rather do it without paying. LOL.

The immersion method is good though, thats what the Linguaphone courses are like, but they cost a fortune.

Well, you become 'immersed' into the various situations and scanarios that are played out by the various characters involved and also take part yourself. Rather than learning like you do from a book at school, its more akin to how you would learn the language naturally. With linguaphone for example, there is no English, everyting is done in the language you are learning. There is not too much emphasis on grammar etc, as you pick that up as you progress.That's my understanding anyway.

Yeah, in bed with a Portuguese or Spanish chica, could be fun. The vocabulary could be a bit limited though.:-rofl2.

No, seriously, listening to tapes/CDs and repeating and answering etc, is surprising how much you learn and remember.
