Les Paul, pioneer of guitar multitracking, echo and the development of the solid-framed guitar now used by all manner of rock and jazz musicians, has died aged 94.

I first heard his fantastic 'How High The Moon' (with vocals by his wife Mary Ford) as a kid at a fair in the early '50s, pumping out over the sound of the Dodgems. A masterpiece of multitracking, speed-changing and weird vocal effects.

Rest in peace Les.

A true great. Not only an AMAZING guitar player, but also a great inventor and seemed a genuinely nice human being. I recently saw a documentary about him, he was still playing in a club despite his age. RIP

Another sad loss. I also saw the documentary and he seems to have packed about three lifetimes into one.
 
Llew, Paul, T-G, you have said all. A sad day for all guitar lovers. The Gibson Les Paul model has been going for over fifty years, and is set to to continue for many more to come.
