Liquid Engineering for actuators

...It really does depend on what price I'm quoted ..but there is so much admiration for VonWeise product..

VS,

What type of drive is on the Von Weiss, is it ball screw or acme thread or some other drive?

If you are on the edge regarding a purchase, it might be worthwhile placing a separate topic re a group buy in the main forum to check to see if there are any other forum members interested in a small group buy. There might be a reasonable saving on shipping costs for a multiple purchase? This topic is in the C Band section, it might not get the views that a group buy in the main forum would get, just a thought?

This is the sort of thing that p!sses me off ..
Built to fail imo ..
The plastic grommet that centralises the extending section of the jack ..
A Qarl 3624+ bought prior to the Venture ..lasted about 9 months before the bush broke loose ..
pathetic ..
Shoddy design and crap materials ..
Now the Venture is giving probs after only 6 months or so ..
and like I said earlier ..the original Jaeger I bought in the 90s gave me about 10 years plus of constant service..
The throw away society once again..
built to fail..

Sounds like the problems with my dish, it's a jerking motion going between satellites, and I can't fine tune it, looks to be the rotary pulse sensor inside the motor, the bad thing is trying to find a replacement, the manufacturer of the sensor and motor even can't replace it.

So you may be better off with a new motor.

Wish I could afford a new motor but with all the fuel costs lately I can't.

Hi Terry ..
being a resident of the US ...you might have more info on the Von Weise actuators ?
Are they really superior as many suggest ?
..or are they just a re-branded superjack design ?
How are they rated on US forums ?
cheers for any info.
Evan

Most give then an A+ rating on the actuator, but a C- on the price.

Mine was 20+ years old before it went FUBAR.

And they make their own stuff, they don't re-brand anything unless it to others.

Cant believe I'm doing this again so soon ..
but seriously considering a Von Weise ..
I'm currently in communication with Scott Abright at Von Weise ..

Still in the contemplation phase atm ..
we shall see.

You earn far too much.

If only it were true ..
Naaa ..
Its more about sacrificing having a life ..
No debts ..
No loans..
I dont go out ..
I dont smoke any more ..
I rarely drink ..
I dont have holidays ..
I dont run a car
I rarely buy clothes ..
No wife ..no kids...and minimal outgoings..
..and no mortgage
I dont do Sky ...I don't do mobile phones..etc etc ..the list goes on.
..in fact I can do without most of the things that most folk class as neccessities
I live like a hermit for the most part.
So ..why not treat myself to the things that make me happy..
lol
You'd be surprised how much you can get by on if you try..
I'd rather buy a blu-ray or an lnb than eat a lavish meal.
Priorities for me are food for the brain and a pan of 'tater hash..
;)
I wont deny my savings have diminished somewhat ...but I figure..I may be dead soon ..and no pockets in shrouds..
An attitude to life I aquired some 6 years ago when I lay in that hospital bed thinking ..my time was up..

costings.webp Had some replies to my questions to Scott ..
mixed questions and answers..
..........................................................
Evan,

See costing below and some of the answers further below.

$ 269.99

V76-5

$ 90.74

FedEx Int'l Economy Shipping

$ 62.75

$7.29 MFN, $55.46 VAT

$ 423.48

Total in US Dollars

I make that about £340 ..??

Alan,

See question below from Evan. I have told him our actuator is guaranteed

for one year. Are you able to offer any comments regarding our construction

vs the suppliers listed below?

Can you give me a rough life expectancy for the actuator ..as various units have failed in the past .. Our unit is guaranteed for 1 year

I've tried Superjack and Venture but these are not lasting..

>>>>>>
Thanks Scott ..

The higher the pulse count the better I think ..(greater accuracy) Feedback is listed at 1136 */- 40

Do you have a pdf link so I can see how limit adjustment is made ? I do not have anything like this.

I'm still deciding if it is economical at the moment .. Understood

So it would be good to have a total price including delivery to my door which includes any shipping and taxes See above

Evan,

While we only provide a 1 year warranty, we have had customers with our actuators who have had multiple decades of service. In fact, we have had customers asking for replacements for actuators and gearmotors which have date codes from the 1980’s and sometimes older than that. Some of these products are long obsolete and we regretfully have to inform them we no longer make that product.

Thanks,

Had another bit of info :-
I guess this is the standard now ..

Hi Evan,

We use a 3/4-6 Single Lead Right Hand acme shaft and plastic acme nut.

Scott

Is this perhaps the best we can hope for these days ..
plastic ?
Possibly why nothing lasts.

I did ask about group buys ..
No reply ..sadly ..other than basically a repeat of the pricing ..
So I guess it is what it is..

Hi Evan,

If you decide to purchase, I would send you a request for payment through PayPal.

This would include all taxes/etc.. The total below includes the actual costs through

FedEx for freight and duties/VAT (they are not marked up).

Thanks,

Scott
