"Sixty years ago this month, in October 1945, the magazine Wireless World published an article by a relatively unknown writer and rocket enthusiast. Its title was: "Extra-Terrestrial Relays: Can Rocket Stations Give World Wide Radio Coverage?" Today, the author's name is known throughout the world. He is the science fiction writer Arthur C Clarke, and his prediction of satellite communications has come true in ways even he never imagined. To mark the anniversary, Heather Couper travels to Sir Arthur's home in Sri Lanka to hear his own story."

This month's Wireless World publishes the original letter by Arthur C Clarke putting forward his ideas, and facsimiles of the articles he followed up with later in the year.

Yes - heard the radio programme today - the valve satellites would have been interesting.

Well worth a listen - a very clever man who thinks 'out-of-the-box'.

Great section with Arthur and Asimov ....

Sometimes I think education produces adults that think a certain way - if children were left alone I wonder what they would come up with?

As he says 'why did fish leave the water? they then found fire and that changed the world, space travel could make the same giant leap - we may never know - hopefully someday someone will.
