LNB for Triax TD110 dish.

I've just been playing about with a Triax TD110 dish going through all Various LNBs I have out of curiosity really. It was a fixed dish on Nilesat 7W, the main transponder I was monitoring was 11938V, which carries the MBC channels, I also flicked through some horizontals to see if any got a lock at all and had a quick flick through other verticals. Anyway here are the results from my Technomate TM1000D super ( 65-66% to be able to watch). In no particular order:-

Smart Titanium single TSL 0.1dB ----- 66-67% watchable picture

Megasat single 0.1dB -----66-67% watchable picture

Inverto Silvertech Single -----63% Not watchable
------66-67%, by holding the LNB closer to the dish

Sky quad minidish LNB (WNC) -----66-67%,watchable picture, although 12054V required the dish to be moved very slightly

Channel master matched feedhorn with Inverto white tech single C120 ------66-67%

Inverto Silvertech Twin LNB -------68-69% watchable picture, also got a lock (63%)on about 5 or 5 horizontals, but no picture. None of the others did this.


N.B for every LNB change the dish was adjusted, the LNB skew was adjusted, and the LNB position was adjusted to get the best signal.

Conclusion...

In my experience the Inverto Silvertech twin is the best LNB to use for this dish.

I was really surprised how well the Sky quad worked though.:-rofl2
 
I find my TD110 performs best on BADR MBCs with a Smart Titanium 0.2dB single.

I also get some Verticals from Nilesat using it (Sometimes!), but never the MBCs.
 
Yes I have seen a Smart Tit 0.2 working very well not far from me on 26E MBC (well it was when I'd finished messing with it), but I had to push the LNB almost as far as it would go towards the dish. The rain was hissing it down, but no break-up at all.

I can't repeat the tests for different LNBs for 26E Badr as I don't have the elevation, but I get the 26E badr MBC with my Inverto Twin too, in the rain on my motorised TD110.

I don't have a Twin in my spares box, but am keeping an eye on eBay for something suitably cheap :-rub

Fixed arms, I've never seen anything but fixed arms, apart from the smaller TD88,78,64 etc.

Ahh yes, I forgot I have a Smart Titanium 2nd edition twin, that I could have tried too, feeling is it wont beat the Inverto twin though as I think I tried it on my motorised 110 at some point.

The 1.1 is known to favour a shorter focal length for many LNBfs ... c. 15mm-25mm shorter.... have you done that mod..

No, I don't dare. I need my main dish up and running and don't want to risk messing it up. The fixed one is getting put onto a motor on Sat for someones else. He might not be pleased if I hacked the end of his arm off.:-rofl2

i have fitted about 20 triax 1.1 in norfolk and get mbc channels with any lnb 100 percent of the time. modification to the arm is needed. you need to raise the arm by placing two penny washers between the rear of the arm and the slider braket. ie undo the butterfly bolt and push the arm up stick two washes in and do it up. job done
 
I will certainly give that a try, I have a few Inverto Silvertech singles kicking around, which are no use on this dish unless the LNB can be put into better focus.

Sorry Robbo ... just got back from a late install..

Undo the bolts at the back... push the arm in (c. 15-25mm depending on the lnb) and add packing to aim the lnb to middle of the dish (it will be lower) (you'll also have to tweak dish elevation afterwards too)

Just clamp it with a small G clamp... it'll never move.. no hack sawing/ no drilling... (you can drill/slot it later to allow easy adjustment.. far better)

Usually expect c. 15% to 35% gains on most lnbs except longer neck ones and expect some LNBs to change places best/ worse wise ...
 
So, are you saying then?, (just to confirm) that the modification is only necessary for 'short' LNBs, but for long ones, there will be no improvement?

yes ..the longer ones get the focus without any mod... like some Edison long necks .. MTI have a long neck model that will ...... a feed horn should too... but doing it that way does limit you to just a few lnbs and not necessarily the best ones.

if you see any triax 1.1s ... they are always up against the lnb holder..

tilting the arm up alone has it's benefits as this should raise the lnb aim and bring closer...

we mod any dish though.. shorter or longer...
