Hi all is this the correct lnb holder for a gibertini 125cm dish?

Well that holder is different from my sister's LNB holder which is white and more square, if I remember correctly. But never been too sure if she has a real Gibertini 1.25 as I bought it without a box from a aerial specialist who sold to to me as a 1.3m dish without a name but the arm and mount look like a Gibertini.
 
Was doubtful it`s the correct holder as it does not seem to hold the lnb at the right angle to get fringe channels on astra2, but have to loosen the holder opening get them. Dish alignment is ok as 100/ 95 reception on all non fringe channels.

As the nights are drawing in and the tv season approaches decided to make the temporary setup more permanent.

Was doubtful if the lnb holder was the correct one as it pointed to low, so after getting inspiration from this thread http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/lnbs-aiming-point.160762/ set about making my own tools to see how and if I could correct the error.

Found an old Nokia lnb and stripped it down removing the end cap and all the workings including the H & V pins in the cavity.
Put some O-rings on the red laser pen ( used for pointing out stars and planets ) so it was a tight fit inside the lnb cavity.
Lowered the dish so resting on the extra fitted brackets and at working height, then mounted the modified old nokia lnb with laser into the holder and yes it was pointing a little low, so corrected the aim, then mounted a working lnb again.
So came the tweaking part ( 12" tv and sat. receiver on the veranda ) first the pointing and elevation using sky news tp, then fine tuning BBC3 as vertical tp signals are slightly stronger here. And then finally the lnb skew.
Managed to get 65Q on BBC3 and 62Q on BBC2HD in light cloudy weather ( have not tried rain fade yet ), that was 2 days ago, have followed since then and the freesat signals follow the same routine, start ~0900 cet and end ~1500 cet at this, location confirming my theory the sat. has a wobble making fringe reception more difficult.

Will save up for a larger dish next year.

Used the blue masking tape on the laser pen to hold the on/off button in whilst pointing at the dish to avoid disturbing the aiming point, was ~4mm too low on the dish.

I had to lay some thin shims ( not visible now ) in the holder to get the laser lnb pointing to the correct position and left them in place for the active lnb.

Ps the laser lnb is in my workshop now.
 
Perhaps my English is not good. I try to find out where exactly on the surface of the dish you got laser point? And another question would be: how you make sure you placed LNB in the focus of your Gibbs?

I know crosshairs on an offset do not give the focus point.

Am not very technical minded but got the result I need.

Wait a minute... You adjusted laser-pointer to LNB-holder to check whether your LNB is properly pointed towards dish. Right? If yes, than you should be aiming your laser somewhere on the surface of the dish! How can you do that without knowing exact place for aiming?
 
I live near the first so called null for astra2 uk psb reception in southern norway, as I could pull in 95Q on non psb tps decided to experiment with altering the angle of the lnb in the holder to get uk psb tps.
I posted the temporary solution in post 3 as I had achieved lock on some uk psb tps. the photo posted involved a sponge with a scrubbing surface.
Realising I must make it a permanent solution before the winter set in did the following:-
Lowered the dish onto supporting bracket used sky news tp for direction and elevation tweak tightened all nuts and bolts when peaked.
Taped thin crosshairs to the dish surface. As the sponge had stiffend somewhat and had taken on the profile of the active lnb I carefully removed that lnb and using blue masking tape to hold in the on/off button carefully replaced it with the laser modified lnb in the same ~position and marked the laser hit point on the vertical tape, followed the same proceedure with the sponge removed marked laser hit point on the vertical tape ~4mm lower, then cut very thin shims to raise the laser hit point to the same mark as with the sponge ( very time consuming ). When happy left the shims in place and replaced the active lnb.

Had a 12" tv and sat tuner out on the veranda and tweaked skew on BBC3.

The thread quoted gave me the inspiration not the know how.

As stated not technical minded but great at using logic.

The result counts, am well happy.

The Gibby 125cn and the 150 has 2 lnb Holders..........the 2 Piece alloy or the Square ish metal version.....

Yes case of either or.

My 2 piece has in fact 3 parts.

1 feed arm to holder mount
2 holder mount to lnb holder ( wedge shaped )
3 lnb holder clamp.

Hi Sko...yes its a case of...... " ether or".......with the alloy type....you might find some manufacturing errors / LNB miss alignment probs .....due to the two piece design.......but your LNB laser test will / has sorted the prob.......I
I did the same laser test a few months ago...........and found the 2 piece Gibby Alloy LNB holder/ grey bracket ........ had been badly made....so the LNB was out of position.......

Question is how many are in the same boat ( position ) and just accept poor reception due to inherent design fault, as discovered by both of us?

Why do you want to use the PM system?
This is a forum, please post your information on the forum, unless it is a new invention, that is patent pending, or somehow illegal, which would be very strange considering we're talking about a satellite dish.
