My Satellite Setup
1.3m dish thomson digibox lg tv
My Location
Spain,
I have just tested three lnbs on my system these are the following readings
Technomate H 72 db 10% quality
V 72 db 20 %
Inverto H 70db 17 %
V 71 db 26 %
Invacom H 67 db 25 %
V 69 db 25 %


Forgetting the price and life span of the lnb which one of these 3 will give the best viewing reception on the above results.

do you always just look at the quality readings to be the highest or should you go for the highest signal?

I wouldn't believe anything on the display.

Why not report when reception gets intermittent, and then change LNBs to see if things improve ?
 
If your receiver has SNR & BER display, check them when swapping LNB. Otherwise, these results have no meaning.
 
A Techomate has just a Technomate quality and strength display.

BER and SNR relies on calibrated equipment and references, the chances are no domestic receiver has the ability to give those readings, despite what the OSG displays.
 
No, you're completely wrong.

there's no such thing as "calibration" when dealing such changing media, as signal from satelite. This is not a local cable/fiber link, where you can have specs for cable, signal attenuation across the distance and so on.
 
It is also not possible to compare LNBs by just checking one transponder, which is I assume what you have done. In the absence of professional test equipment the next best thing to do is to compare quality readings on all wanted transponders. Whichever LNB gives you the best quality reading accross all the transponders you want, go for that one.

The signal level is not important, as long as it is above the minimum level required by the receiver. The signal level is not only dependent on the received signal power at the dish, but also the gain of the LNB and any losses in the cable to the receiver.

Interesting, I wonder why some nine years down the line I can still sell costly calibration equipment to teleports and SNGs.
