LNB Skew ??

Hi All,

Just checked on dishpointer.com and it stated that for my LNB should have a skew of -6,7 deg, is this important ? and which way should i turn the LNB to achieve this ? For info my locaton is Nuernberg, Germany.

Also for the benefit of other members, if you go to the dishpointer site, and hover your mouse pointer over the skew setting, instructions appear explaining all.

"When standing behind the dish rotate the LNB in the indicated direction"

Thanks for your replys, did see the instructions on the dishpointer site but still wasnt really sure, but satmans little image has cleared it up for me. Thanks again guys !!

Also bear in mind that the figure given is for guidance, the actual skew is best determined by making very small adjustments, then checking the signal quality reading on the receiver.

The best method is using the zoom-in functiom on the spectrum with Satlook Digital instrument, then you can easy set the exact correct skew.

Well yes of course, but not many hobbyists have the benefit of a spectrum analyser for fine tuning.:)

Amazing improvement, now getting much better readings on sig quality ( 50 - 60 % on thompson HD box) for the 2D channels.

One other question, my 110cm dish will be installed on monday ( currently have a 88cm Triax), so should i still go ahead with the dish upgrade ? or is 50 - 60 % enough sig quality even in rainy weather? Can receiving to strong a signal cause any damage to any components in the system i.e LNB or receiver ?

No harm in taking a step up in dish size, won't do any harm, but will certainly help in bad weather. Make sure he aligns and adjusts the skew on the Astra 2D frequencies

very critical indeed in fringe areas and the angle defined in degrees mean nothing unless you have a digital field strength meter.
