i do some satellite installations and at the minute i have 4 different lnbs to see which i should but in the future

I have a motorised system at present and was wondering what teh best channels would be to check each lnb

are there any weaker transponders? I take it testing them all on an astra channel wouldnt really make much difference
 
The problem you have is that they will all perform differently on a given TP ............ whichever one you choose.

The Noise figure vs. Frequency plot is not flat and the "Headline" Noise Figure for each LNB (ie 0.1db, 0.3dB .....) applies only over a small part of Ku Band - and that part will differ between brands, between batches of the same brand etc.

Add in the fact that other parameters will also vary with frequency and you have an impossible baseline.

Empirical comparison against the primary intended /channels of interest is about all the hobbyist and the domestic installer can do.
 
No point testing it on any of the high power Euro sats as they wont make any difference whatsoever! - I use some scabby old lnb's out of the spares box on some of my dishes - the best part of a decade old and they give me huge signals. :D

You could try to see if they improve summat like the Sesat 1 channels at 16E as shes putting out a dreadful signal into the UK.
 
thanks the reason I wanted to do it was that i have been paying £20 for lnbs but i have picked up 2 for 3 and 5 quid each which seem to have all the same details and spec
 
You could also try on the Viasat PL channels on 5e, they are on quite a low power TP, so you should notice a differance there.
 
i checked 3 lnbs £3,£5 and £20 and found them all to be very similar, the £3 icecrypt one was actually better on 15.8e
