Thought I've seen most of everything, but... wondered why my new pc speakers (sub + l\r + integrated amps) had such bad high freq., got the answer: a fake high, just a flat piece of plastic made to look like a dome speaker ! Must start looking for some small high freq. dome to fit, and they will be ok.

Thanks a lot Logitech, I once thought that was a good company, I'll remember this...

You can complain to trading standards about misleading packaging, e.g. a large pot of 'gunge' has a double wall so that it actually holds a lot less, but I think this would be pushing things. Disappointing though!

No I think that example has a valid case through trading standards, misrepresentation at the very least

I would run Logitec over the coals first and send them the photo, they could very well be knockoff's from somewhere.

And what was the model number of these speakers? And where did you buy them?

This so someone else wont run out a buy them. (I can post this info on a stereo forum)

And if you do find a small dome hi freq speaker for them you will also have to find a crossover to run them right.

Crazy, ain't it? Thanks for the suggestions, will 1st have a chat with the shop.

Logitech Z333 "Bold sound with strong bass" (true, no treble :O)

Was 50 euros so no big deal, and for my use actually happy with the parts that works (good sub, and quite a lot of power), if keeping them was thinking of just adding something like these tweeters, should be able to tune that into something 100 x better than the plastic bit :O)

with lots of eq, it's roughly passable (see attach) :O)

Well you could try them as they are not that much in price, but the 600 watt rating may prove to be a problem, as the 40 watt rating on the current speakers may be much less then the effective startup range on those tweeters. (startup range, the threshold where you can start hearing them)

You may have to really crank up the volume to hear any difference, if the speakers are rated out to 40 watts then the tweeter should also fall into that rating, also the output of the computers sound card may not be able to drive them as good as the lower level ones. (unless there is an internal amp)

I had a customer that got a real nice set of rear speakers for his surround sound system, he complained that he could not hear them until the program volume was turned way up, I took a look and found out that the speakers were rated out to 1000 watts, but the rest of the system speakers were rated out to 200, this big a difference can cause problems with the sound of the system. (sometimes)

I just run my PC audio (Creative Labs Sound Blaster 5.1 ZX PCIe sound card) into my AV receiver, blows away any PC speaker system.

Ah that is the low profile smart wireless tweeter from Zinvisible, only Logitech have the rights to fit them in equipment and even then they have to remove all identifying marks.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Ignore those Wattage "ratings" - "someone" (in fact almost every supplier of very low tech "audio equipment") quoted Peak Power ratings for the whole system whereas all the decent audio equipment suppliers use RMS power ratings for each speaker- and there is a VERY big difference in the numbers.

In reality, most decent small PC speakers are probably rated around 10 ( probably only 5)-20W RMS each - so connect a "proper" highish power (say 60-100W RMS per channel)l and "turn the wick right up" on a high input level, and you'll probably have a job catching the speaker cones before they hit the opposite wall, having been blown right out the boxes :D

Edited: the latter assumes that you connect them to some form of relatively "hifi" audio power amp, whereas, in reality, the input levels to those speakers will almost certainly come from the (very) voltage-limited audio output of a PC motherboard or dedicated audio card - so don't "worry", but still don't get "mislead" by the Peak Power wattage "numbers game".

Of course, am doing that at home. The mentionned speakers are for my summerhouse, music from laptop \ phone \ streaming, not expecting any super hifi, just a dose of some basic musicality and frequency response, all would have been very fine for this holiday use was it not for the tweeter mockery.

Could you return them for refund? Or, if you can't, perhaps a suitable piezo tweeter - AFAIK they don't need a cross over

Usual crossover in something under £50 is a non polarised electrolytic

Sounds to me that it would be far better to just return the "Logitech" speakers and buy something "better", albeit more expensive overall - "problem" solved
