What do you mean by 'slightly suspect'. It either is, or isn't.

Getting three quotations / surveys would be the norm with systems works.

well the guy has suggested several different options (local installer of a "very well known" uk satellite TV provider)

For one option he suggests if we want Sky+ the existing 'terresterial TV' type cable would be fine to carry the second satellite feed. It's an air spaced dielectric with copper strands only (not very many at that) no foil or film at all, that kinda rang the loudest alarm bell....

Another option suggests daisy chaining multiple (4) receiver powered multiswitches which doesn't seem to sit too well with me either.... (open to being corrected tho)

Although they have quoted for the option I think we want (mostly new cabling+equipment and a single 5x32 way mains powered multiswitch) and the price seems ok tbh I'm a little alarmed this individual would think the other options acceptible and am worried what kind of corners might be cut by someone that thinks TV coax is fine for a Sky+ satellite feed!

Actually we've have had 4 quotes so far...

One was twice the price of the other 3, another was from a company that now seems impossible to contact and I suspect out of business, the third had ideas that made me a bit suspect on the technical side (see above) the 4th has other issues that made me a little uneasy (he was wanting to do a cash in hand no VAT job).

Reflecting on the above I think we'd do well to consider a 5th option, and an experienced independent local installer would be great if I could only track one down

Well this one went in 2 weeks ago and is performing well, Robbo certainly seems to know his stuff and after getting a little lucky in finding that the spec of our preinstalled wiring was better than we thought we were able to get to a fairly neat/efficient IRS system design that went in in a day and did everything we were asking for.

I'm now sat with a Sky+HD box happily reporting 70% signal strength, 100% Signal quality on both feeds :)

(Guess this can be moved to the job complete section now)

Thanks again Robbo
