Media files playable on DM800

Hi

What files can the DM800 play internally using my usb?

I have many .MP4 hd files, .mkv hd files and avchd and avi files can the DM800 play these files and would i require any plugins?

basic avi's and mpeg will play fine but struggles with hd264 files, some blue ray rips play good also
 
Thanks, I tried an avi file yesterday and it wouldn't work it showed an error and said gstreamer plugin avi not available

have you installed vlc? and set up the ip address for the files you are trying to play?
 
No, i don't like streaming its a pain and too much freezing and waiting. I'd like to just watch off my hard drive, read on the net that the DM800 is powerful enough to run .avi files and hd files so im just going to stick to converting to mpeg and watching them in low quality or just use my ps3 :)

you still use vlc to do that, you need to set the dm800 up to play avi's straight from your pc, look for a tut on here

I was meant to write it isn't powerful enough to play those files.

I don't want to stream off my PC, it cause freezing when watching i would prefer playing them directly off my USB or Hard Drive which isn't possible.
 
It won't play .avi files directly, I've had no problems playing back DXVA compliant x264 encoded files though (either in an .mkv or .mp4 container), never tried streaming since it's redundant as I use XBMC on a dedicated HTPC for media files which is far superior. If only someone could build a receiver capable of running this UI, they're even working on a port for the ARM processor!
 
I haven't tried .mkv files yet, i've tried using .mpeg directly and it wouldn't work at all even though it is said to work.
