The james 1st looks a cracker :-).
Indeed it is..as are a few of the others like the Edward confessor Penny..
When I eventually get some trays or containers ..and open the plastic wallets I'll scan em properly so you can see 'em better.

Hi V/S, there was a metal detecting programme on 26E today, I am not sure if they show them all the time but I will try and find a TV guide for them :-),

A nice eyes only find, I found this a few weeks ago (Neolithic leaf-shaped arrowhead) and 2 coins, I have not been out very often, but should be back out in the next week or so.

Hi I am getting back into this hobby this year, i bought this today, supposed to be a good machine I will put it up against my other and see how good it is :).

I have a few small rivers that run though the land I have permission and this will be ideal for working them :).

Hi been out today, had a great day weather was good and a few finds as well :), 2 hammered coins :) the cut quarter is a Scottish coin , I need to sit and study to try and work out the monarch the fullish clipped coin is an Edward half penny/farthing, no idea with the roman I might be able to get something once its cleaned up, I will have to sit and study hammered/roman coins are quite hard to identify learning slowly :).

Sadly the clipping is quite severe on that penny Martin ...
and part of the legend is worn and thinned ..
The portraits of most 13 >15th century kings are much of a muchness ...
All I can make out is what looks like R or D VS.REX ..
So possibly EDWARDVS.REX long cross ..
1247 - 1279 inc
(and Edward penny)
So we know its a king ...but which king ..(Which Edward)
but 3 pellets so possibly Edward III
Have you made any more of the legend out buddy ??
Sometimes holding it at various angles to a light source helps with this..
A bigger detailed image and I might be able to reference my books..
Nice finds btw ..
It's making me nostalgic for the many happy hours spent in the field ..
I really must visit you someday if my health allows.

Thanks Evan, its mainly in the spelling with Edwards whether its 1/2/3,i have reference books but I need to be sat with them to narrow it down, its to small for a penny from memory penny are around 15mm, I will take a good macro picture in daylight and sit and study and post better pictures up.

I would love to meet up with you Evan you are more than welcome any time, just let me know, I can pick you up from the train station and drop you back off, I also have a spare detector and land to die for if you wanted a few hours out, that bush you are wanting ive not forgot I will check it out when I go to this field.

Well ..
Just looking at the 3 Edward pennies I have ...
They look very similar to yours ..
but are Edward I Caterbury mint 1272-1307
Diameter approx 17.2mm
but the Legends Read
EDWR ANGL DEIS HIB
and
EDWAR R ANGL DNSHYB

Which makes me think yours is Later
EDWARD 2 or 3

..and again I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3 ..
..as the name Edward is often shortened to EDWAR or EDWR on Eddy 1 pennies

Yours looks to read EDWARDVS

but is that EDWARDUS ....or EDWAR DVS
but again this makes me think ...not Edward 1
It'll be tricky ..but I'm sure you'll nail it.
;)

Ive just cleaned the one on the right up, this is the average eddy penny, the one on the left is what I found today depending on Eddy 1/2/3 its a half penny florin or farthing, I need to check all of the above Eddy 1/2/3 and half penny florin or farthing of each one then narrow it down hopefully to one its painstaking work but I enjoy it as ive said learning slowly pal :)
