I'm using a Thomson HD box up until now quite successfully for years in the Valencia region of Spain.Early last year I moved to an apartment where the community insisted that the only place I could mount my dish (1.3) was in a very exposed position,so come the first winds of the Winter I lost ITV 1 and 3 and several other channels.Tightening the mounting bolts only ended up with BBC channels weakening, and the next few gusts of wind lost them all together. Now I can pay an installer £65 to re-tune,but given the position of the dish and the way the weather seems to be going this might become a financial drain.Found this on Ebay Digital Satellite Finder V8 finder Signal Search Meter DVB-S2 MPEG-2/4 | eBay Does it look like a decent meter that may or may not save me money in the long run?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Have a look at some other members recommendations, but anything for the E50 price is going to be better than one callout if you can work out how to use it.

You mention the dish is in an exposed position, are you able to carry out adjustments without risk to yourself and/or property ?

If I were you I would not bother to buy any meter if you have easy access to the dish.
Just wait for a sunny day, take your receiver and TV close to the dish and tune it for best recption.

THEN MARK THE POSITION OF THE DISH BRACKETS ON THE POLE!
DO THE SAME FOR ALL COMPONENTS THAT MAY MOVE IN A STORM.
MARK THEM BY SCRATCHING THE METAL TO HAVE A PERMANENT MARK OR USE WATER/SUN PROOF PAINT.

After the next storm you just go to the dish and move it into the markers position.

Vitor

Or, if your dish overlooks your garden, put a stick in your garden where your dish is aimed.
Or, if there is some kind of fixed landmark where your dish is aimed, take a photo of that from your dish location (as reminder).

For just personal use, any meter which has satellite recognition and a signal-quality-bar would be sufficient, I guess.
Don't know if you really need spectrum-analysers and the lot.

It's safe on a roof terrace, but because it's a common area (even though nobody else has been up there in 15yrs) I only had permission to put it in the very corner, which is exactly where the wind funnels through between the two apartment blocks across the road.

Hi Vitor It's been tuned in fine for about 8/9 months,it was just that after a recent bout of wind and rain,I lost ITV 1-3 and a few other channels.I thought the wind must have loosened the bracket so I went upstairs and tightened the bolts about half a turn. When I got down BBC channels had started to pixel slightly.Tried turning the bolts back to their normal position and the picture on BBC was worse and now I have no BBC or ITV 1 and 3 signal at all.Lots of other channels are still OK, Ch4 CH5 Blaze Quest HD CBS Reality etc,but I have noticed that when it gets cloudy or spits with rain where they used to be clear even they are breaking up.It's a fine adjustment I need and I know the signal indicator on the Sky HD box isn't that accurate.

It's been up for a while now and as I took it from another location it just needed one of the cheap £5 sat finders to turn it to the correct direction the elevation and scew were already set, everything worked fine until about a week or so ago.If I had a dish the size of Jodrell Bank I'd be fine but local regulations limit the size you can use and as Valencia is on the edge of the footprint using a 110 offset dish the tuning need to be spot on.
