Modding an LNB

My Satellite Setup
Vu uno, VU Duo2, sky dish, 2 zone 2 dishes for 19.2 and 23.5. Satlink meter, rover STCeu meter. Tripod with a dish for messing around.

Hi,

I have the wave frontier and as you all know the LNBs touch each other at a 3 degree arc . getting sats like 4.8 and 7 can be a struggle as can 16 and 13.

The holders on the rail are not touching it is the LNB itself.

What i was thinking is to make a smal mark on where the two lnbs touch then take them out and sand the edges down to square it off. this will allow the two LNBs to sit closer together. I have attached a cacky drawing that is a bit ott. I am talking about sanding off a the plastic to square it off.

Would it effect the fuctionality of the LNB or the signal of the LNB?

Not of itself ................ the guts of the LNB is in a hermetically sealed can within the plastic shroud, so if all you are cutting off is plastic, all you are doing is reducing protection - but any early failures can be replaced at relatively low cost, so not really a problem.

However, if the space between the plastic case and the innards is tight, then you will have a problem.

Have you got a spare one you can remove the cover from (probably destructively ...........) to help you decide if your idea is viable?
 
You need to use a smaller lnb, like the alps one.

As far as i'm aware you can get 3 degree spacing with these lnbs. If i remember rightly Satsid used to use them on his torrodial dish :D
 
Thanks very much. I have a Sky LNB that will lend itself to some destruction, I will be having a little fiddle this weekend.

Stout fellow - I like a "can do" approach!

And if any modded ones do fail early, use Alps ones to replace them, as Nano advised
 
If you use one of the later MK4 Sky quads, branded Zinwell or Visiblewave the heads of them are quite small and narrow(ish) you should be able to get 3 degree spacing on them anyway. I have used those in the past as a cost effective QUAD option to get 13E,16E and 19E on a Triax TD88.

Another option for singles only is the Inverto PRO LNBs, they have small heads also.
