Emap Performance is to launch Mojo Radio as the latest addition to its portfolio of digital radio stations. A digital radio version of the music magazine will become the seventh national digital radio service to be launched by the group and will go live on Freeview and NTL in mid-September. The launch coincides with the 10th anniversary of Mojo magazine and the station’s playlist will include acts the magazine has championed during its history, from The Kinks to The White Stripes. Emap Performance chief executive Tim Schoonmaker said: “Mojo Radio will be the destination of choice for the music lover who wants radio that reflects where music has come from and where it is going. Mojo Radio will provide the soundtrack for the fan of music that has mattered since the invention of teenagers.” The station joins Emap’s portfolio of digital radio stations Kiss, Kerrang!, Smash Hits!, Q, Magic and The Hits. In the latest radio listening figures, the digital platform helped boost the reach of London-based dance station Kiss, with almost a million tuning in outside of the capital. Smash Hits! digital radio station clocked up 853,000 listeners and Kerrang! had an audience of 773,000. Schoonmaker said he will be looking for further distribution opportunities for Mojo Radio, including DAB digital radio. The company is yet to sign a carriage deal with Sky, however.
