I read that C4’s More4 and More4+1 are scheduled for launch on the 10th of October.

Any ideas whether they will transmit off 2D ?

Looks like More4 will be encrypted to Family pack level.

That’s fine for me (and I guess for many other) as long as it is transmitted in an other than the 2D bird

I still think it will be on 2D even if it is indeed encrypted as there are two newish test labels on the C4 2D tp. :D

You were right about the test, but it can be viewed by a freesat FTV card.

Better still. Dont have ftv capabilities here so had assumed it was fp level as it was blocked on my fta kit.

Looks like it will be the best new channel for some years. The trailers currently showing seem to suggest a quality mix of news, documentaries, original drama and films.
It will be channel 165 on sky EPG and 13 on Freeview.

According to the more4 homepage it will be FTA on all platforms:

"Available free-to-air on Freeview, Sky Digital and digital cable, More4 will join E4 and FilmFour as one of the highest profile channels in millions of digital TV homes."

But it's definitely subscription only on Sly <SCOWLS>. Is there no justice?

I read that differently : available fta on freeview, and on Sky and on cable. The fta seems to be for freeview only .....

Yes, unfortunately that seems to be it. The preview is OK on my Sly subscription card but on the FTV card there's the usual "ring this number to add this channel..." banner. The Toppy shows it as scrambled.
Rupert wins again!

:-doh! You cant blame Sky if a channel takes a commercial decision to go scrambled and take the few pennies per subscriber that sky offers as a sweetner. Blame C4 NOT Sky.

Anyway, its probably only a few switches to flick to drop the encryption, so it could possibly still turn up clear at 8pm.

But anyway, it's certainly on Freeview, and the progs look good ......

With this, Freeview is seeming increasingly like a "serious platform", an actual competitor to Sky.

Once "Freesat" gets properly going - for those who curently can't or never will receive Freeview - then analogue switchoff can begin, and Topup will be able to include many more subscription channels, and there'll be enough room for some HDTV, etc....

Once Sky's virtual monopoly has ended, then prices should become much more reasonable, although expect Murdoch to start complaining about "unfairness" .......

Ah well, it was a good theory. Theres a bitter debate over on DS about what the adverts said - most folks seem to think they indicated that M4 would be free on all platforms, but somehow Sky threw a spanner in the works.
