Moteck SG2100A or Technomate TM-2300 Super?

Hi

I had ordered a Moteck SG2100A but received the Technomate TM-2300 Super. It is to drive a 1m Gibertini.

I went for the Moteck because I read reasonable reviews (longevity, quitenesss, etc) but I know nothing about the Technomate other than it has "reinforce metal plate for extra strength" and "35% faster than previous 2100A model".

Cost is the similar so should I be asking for the originally ordered Moteck or not?

As always, your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Stick with the Technomate - they are "improved" Moteck clones anyway and are supposed to be more robust.

I think you've got a good deal :)

Can anyone comment on how much quieter the nylon geared TM2300 is when compared to the Metal Geared TM2600?
 
Received wisdom is that the difference, if any, is imperceptible.
 
Hmm. Does this mean they're both quiet or noisy? :)
 
The reason I'm asking is that I'm still undecided which motor to buy, and upsetting the neighbours (I live on an end-of-terrace) is a worry.

So is there any reason to choose the 2300 over the 2600 or vice versa?
 
Most of the Moteck clones are pretty quiet, so unless it's on your neighbour's wall, it should be fine.
 
If it's driving a heavier dish (ie, 100cm steel) then go for the 2600. An 80cm to 100cm Aluminium then the 2300 will be fine :)
 
I can't hear the 2600 through the window, which it's right next to, if that helps.
 
I have had the pleasure of having both on the side of the house at the same time and can confirm that if anything i found the Moteck noisier than the 2300.

The SG-2100a had an 80cm dish on it while the TM-2300 had a 1m dish on it so in theory it should have been quieter. That wasn't the case :confused:

The other major difference i found was that the TM2300 didn't suffer with as much backlash as the SG2100a had.

The TM2300 with the 1m steel dish also survived the 80MPH gusts we had a few years back and its still working to this day. Unfortunately the SG2100a didn't survive. The force on the 80cm dish and motor inevitably stripped the nylon gears making the motor next to useless :(

I would go for the TM2300/2600 over the Moteck SG2100a anyday :D

Thanks for the info! My 18mth-old Fortec Star H-H motor died last weekend during the high winds so I'm looking for a replacement for my 90cm dish.

Think I'll go for the 2600 over the 2300 as the metal gears should be more durable than the nylon/plastic gears, and it's worth spending about £5 more for that extra durability!

I usually swear by Technomate kit but I have had a quality problem with a 2600, I've fitted others so perhaps it was a one off. Basically it was a problem with the dish fixing pole which had too much clearance on the mounting spigott resulting in about a 3 degree play. It was replaced by Technomate no problem, but I had to go back to it three times before I spotted the problem, I've never seen or guessed something like that would be incorrect.

I also find the 2600 quite noisey, it produces a high pitched whirr, perhaps its the steel gears? Remember many of the older 36v heavy duty HtoH mounts actually have nylon gears and work flawlessly for many years, decades even. If you have a local EuroSat or other dealership perhaps you could have a look and listen to a setup.
