hi i am also new to satellites (comlete newbe lol ) well i have fortec star motor and 80cm dish could you please tell me if i have got this right if i set degrees on motor to 0 and dish to centre that is true south next send motor to 28.2 (using buttons on motor) so then point dish and motor to 28.2 (as i have a sky dish set to 28.2 on wall next to new dish so point the same ) will i be on arc

sorry forgot latitude/londitude
exact dish position is 53 33' 27.91 north
2 46 13.77 west
and also according to google earth it says elev 81m
don't know what elev meens as don't think house is 81 metres high lol
so i set bracket marks to 53 is that also right

Not quite, as using the buttons on the motor you won't know where the motor should be for 28.2E.

If USALS/GOTO X works on your receiver send the dish to Thor at 0.8W, and then align to that as per the guide.

If USALS?GOTO X doesn't work, since you are at 2.77 degrees west, you can use the buttons to move the motor to approx 2 degrees eastward, and align to thor.

If you have probs aligning to Thor, yes you could try 28e, but send the motor there using USALS/GotoX using the receiver first. When you have found it, sen dthe dish back to Thor and check alignment. Alignment of a motorised dish using a satellite way round the arc, doesn't always work that well, best to do at due south satellite.

Welcome to the forum, I've moved your posts onto a new thread rather than tagging them onto one of the tutorials.

aparently cant use usals i have dm800 and fortec star diseqc motor my friend says cany use usals

The fortec star motors are generally just rebrands of other motors Inc stab. I have fitted a few fortec star turners and all worked with usals.

The DM800 will be fine with USALS, unless it's a clone but there are a couple of older fortec motors that don't use USALS. In which case you can either get a new motor, or setup using Diseqc 1.2. It's well worth trying USALS first to see if it works. 53 on the Latitude bracket is right for Skem.

To setup with 1.2, you need to move the motor round to about 2.5 degrees west to line up on 5w, OR 1.5 degrees east to line up on 1w. Either use the reciever or motor button to move it, and look at the scale on the motor shaft. Then allign by moving the whole lot around the pole and adjusting the dish bracket .

hi tried to alighn dish but confusing got 98% signal on 28.2 and 67% on 0.8 but 0 on most others can you help

Yes, that is confusing, because if you get 28E and Thor OK, then unless you have line of sight issues you will get some in between as well. Did you get USALS working or using Diseqc 1.2?

Personally I'd never use USALS with a DM800 as I've never seen it work, and you could waste alot of time trying. You need to set it up manually and there are many threads on the site about it, I'll have a look when I'm not as tired. The Genuine/Clone issue is irrelevant.

i would never touch a fortec motor ever again. I have had such a high failure rate with them dreambox's just don't seem to like them. I replaced loads with tm2600 motors and never had a problem with one. Also if you have flashed your dream box for cs then that in its self can have problems with using usuals.

I to have had issues with a fortec motor driving a vu+. But it's working fine now using usals. But for the fringe reception you will be better using the 1.2 protocol and fine tuning and storing the satellites. To do this on the 800 use the advance tab also lnb 1 and pick 1.2 then at the very bottom of the advance tab it will ask if you want to use usals for this sat pick no and change the stored position to whatever you have stored it. And so on but you can still use the usals for the other sat's that your picking up well.
