dm500s and ***** Dark motor, 85cm dish

had the above kit 3 months...working fine thanks to forum help, untill I decided to have a clean out and feel my way around. Did a factory reset on the 500s then successfully flashed with Gemini 4.3.1 26-02-2008. I then reset the Diseqc motor as per instructions now cannot get motor to work from 500s but it will turn by manually pressing East West buttons.

If I go to Setup-service searching-motor setup and then Blue button for next page, the motor lights stop flashing as soon as the Blue button is pressed and it will not operate manually, I have to reboot then motor lights come back on.

Could the motor be faulty or have I forgot something
Please Help
 
Have you set up usals positioning?
 
yep...did the full setup just like I did 3 months ago when everything worked OK
 
how did you reset the motor.. we had some cac stbs in recently that upset some diseqc motor brands ... couldn't use the motors until we reset them properly on a tm5400

sw limits not messed up?

I reset the motor by

1.Cut off the power by disconnecting coax
2.Press and hold East/West buttons for 5 seconds
3.Reconnect the coax
4.LED1 and LED2 blink for 5 seconds
5.Then ,its memory erased, the receiver rewrites the satellite table to initial one and corrects the "0"

Does this sound OK

did you have the power (stb) on when you unplugged and plugged the f connector.

I don't know 100% a DM500s with a DM motor but the default settings (for the pre programmed diseqc 1.2 positions and default limits) are usually 'in' the motor on a rom/eprom (or whatever ram/rom chip they use nowadays), a reset usually just copies them from stored rom in the motor to the eprom / ram that holds the adjustable positions.. - they should be listed in the motor manual. Those are mainly for Diseqc 1.2 positions but the limits might be screwed.

Can you get at the set limits option in the dm500s... or borrow another stb that will allow you access to that menu... and make sure the limits aren't screwed and zero reference is OK...

Does the flash work otherwise... could you return the 500s to original and try that ...

I have just reflashed image and will try setting up again this weekend

Have reflashed box with different images but every time I send a command to the motor the lights go out and I have to power off and back on to get lights back on .....the motor will move by manually pressing East/West but not every time, seems like a motor malfunction

I unfortunately did not backup before flashing, at the moment it is Gemini 4.5 maxvar I am using..

I have been advised by motor provider to Factory Reset sat reciever with the motor connected as the receiver stores the DiSEqC settings and controls the motor and the motor also stores positions and can lock up or only move small steps if it receives conflicting data from the receiver
Also set/reset East/West limits on receiver with motor connected (as you also suggested)
Next delete all stored channels-important-also delete all the radio channels
Go into the receiver menu and find the motor DiSEqC 1.2-USALS goto X "0" setting, this will set the motor to "0", which should line up the dish @ True South, now use the receiver & remote control to find a satellite NOW THE MOTOR SHOULD MOVE.

I have followed the above instructions but as soon as I go into the motor settings to Goto X "0" or try to reset East/West limits the LED indicators go out on the motor and the motor will not respond, I have to power off the stb or reboot to get the LED's on again
very frustrating
 
at this stage we would test the sat box on another motor and the motor on another sat box.. one way or another you need to do the same if you can ...

I returned motor for check and motor is OK but the problem now is finding someone in LEEDS area (local sat man will not touch dreambox)to check 500s with another motor as I am still having the same problem everytime I try to setup Usals lights go out on motor.
If I bypass motor I can receive chanels OK .
I have put a meter on coax out of receiver and meter jumps from 10 to 17 when I send signal to motor is this normal.
I have just cleared and flashed box with nabilosat darkstar II image am I missing something like a service list or something.........any help appreciated

sending a signal to a motor isn't that voltage change from 10 -17.... but they could have speeded the motor up by using the higher 17v(18v) so it could be designed like that... .. it should be 13v & 18v.. the 17v isn't that bad... the 10v is a bit low.

for the other issues you need specific dreambox info sorry.
 
Satstar49. My DM500 also struggles at times to drive the motor. Not sure if the lights go out on the motor though. Anyway. the first thing many of us would have said is that it is important to keep the DM500's memory as clear a possible (less than 50%) but as you have a clean install with no channel list or Cams installed I guess that isnt the problem.

What I would suggest you try if you havent already, is another power supply. The original PSU supplied with the DM500 is pretty crappy. I had problems with my box constantly crashing and a replacement supply solved the problem. I was lucky to have another PSU from an old modem which I was able to use as a test before I spent any cash. The original PSU is 12V and 2amp my replacement is 12V and 3.75 amps. but the test PSU was only 1amp and it worked well also. Just check the voltage thats all.
