Motor rotates wrong.. driving me crazy!!

Having enlarged the image of the LNB I can confirm it's a Smart Titanium...

There are already pictures of the top of the cap on Page 4, but an image of the rear of the LNB where the label is will prove the orientation requirement.

The receiver would have originally been flashed with the official vuplus image:
Code:
http://code.vuplus.com/

The company must have flashed it with the OpenPli image, with your consent, unless the receiver isn't new, and has been returned, or unless they prefer the openpli image.

It doesn't matter which image you use, they are all similar, it's generally a personal preference.
I would download a motorized channel list, from the menu, then try using Diseqc 1.2, to drive, and store, the satellites. then test the channels.

Neither I ask the webshop nor they ask me to put openpli image on the receiver. but it doesnt matter that much, right? because i can put any image i want.

Hmm...do you mean you actually turned the LNB clockwise or anticlockwise in it's holder or moved the LNB towards or away from the dish face? No skew adjustment (i.e. the slant of the LNB ) should be necessary as the design of the motor and stub will apply the correct skew as it turns. The LNB should be set to vertical and not moved afterwards. If you've had to rotate the skew of the LNB to get better results, it indicates that either your mount isn't true vertically or there is a misalignment of the dish and motor stub.

i rotated it inside its holder clock and anti clockwise. it started to give me better signal strength (for astra 4.8e) when i moved it anti clockwise. i will set it to vertical later on and see what happens especially after the dish is moved to other satellites.

here are the pix of the lnb. I hear that Inverto Black LNBs are the best. Do you think if i replace there will be a significant difference in signal?

Good news again!!

The issue of the deviation is solved!

As you all often stated the importance of true south, this indeed was the main factor. The problem was caused by the compass of my iPhone 6s. I thought i can really trust what it gives me because it but i was wrong. The true south shown by the dishpointer website is accurate.
Plus, the elevation of the dish i calculated based on the manual of the motor isn't precise either. It needs to be at 23 degrees but based on the manual i had to set it to 22.5 degrees.

Currently i can lock to most of the satellites. To give you some examples.
WEST:
The farthest satellite to the west side i have (good) signal is 30.0W Hispasat, I get 90% on SNR and 72% AGC for this satellite, transponder 10730 H 27500 3/4.
- 12.5W Eutelsat. SNR: 100%, AGC: 60%. Transponder: 11008 V 2141 Auto.
- 7.0w nilesat. SNR 35%, AGC: 64%.
- 0.8w Thor. SNR 100%, AGC 73%.
EAST:
- The one near my true south. Astra 4.8E. SNR: 86% AGC 67%
- Hotbird 13.0e: SNR: 100%, AGC 71%
- Astra 19.2e: SNR: 100%, AGC 70%
- Astra 23.5e: SNR: 100%, AGC 70%
- Turksat 42.0E SNR: 100%, AGC 64%
- The farthest satellite I get signal for is 52.0E: SNR 100% & AGC 69%.

There are many satellites in between which I get no signal for. The signal also differs when i choose different transponders.
Do these signals and results comparable to what you guys have?

Different transponders can use different beams, producing different footprints, because they are aimed at different countries.
Try clicking on the Beam link, on lyngsat.com, when looking at a transponder, e.g, this link is to Europe B, on 16E:
Code:

I'm surprised to see 100%, but that must be due to your image, Openpli.
I'm also surprised that Openpli was pre-loaded, on your receiver, which could indicate that it is a returned item, or used by the shop.
Which satellites aren't you getting?

Firstly, well done! :-applause

With regards to comparing results, this will depend on your location and dish size. My motorised dish is a 1.2 Laminas and due to my location I see different sats at different strengths.
For example, I can see Nilesat 7W with ease, but cannot see some others as well.
Signal difference between transponders is perfectly normal. This can be effected by various things, especially as many sats have multiple beams with different power and direction. This may also account for why you do not see some sats in between

Edit, sorry Mickha posted while I was typing.

Here´s a good example for different levels on the same beam , from my location at least.
These three are on Astra 2E UK beam and differ greatly at my location ( have to use the fixed 1.8 as the motorised 1.2 cannot see the weaker one )
10906 V 22000 12.4 dB
11427 V 27500 9.8 dB
12129 V 27500 6.6 dB

See what you get!

Well done - I will chime in saying that you have proved that not giving up is the way forward!

But I would like to add that Dishpointer is not always right in regards to north/south orientation.
I have experience from settng up a dish in France for 28.2, and Dishpointer was several degrees out!
(I was looking over a mountain ridge, so I had very precise reference points to compare with).

Travel kit for 28.2E in (mid-eastern) France

And one should be careful HOW you use a compass: You need to hold the compass some distance away from the dish when taking a reading.
The compass is of course magnetic (even the iPhone one), and holding a magnetic sensor close to a large metal plate is likely to disturb the reading on the compass. No clever GPS adjustment will compensate for this.

It is very tempting to hold the compass flush with the dish or mount, but this may screw up the compass reading.
I have noticed this on both steel and plastic dishes (with embedded mesh).
My approach is to get the South reading before I put the dish up, and use something on the horizon as reference point.
Afterwards you need to do the check-adjust-check-adjust cycle described elsewhere in thread.

Here, in the Netherlands, I get these numbers for the frequencies u mentioned:

- 10906 V 22000 18.1 dB
- 11427 V 27500 16.2 dB

He, this news about dishpointer.com is new to me!
I hope that only happens at a few sites on earth....

So the sun method (adjust at the exact time when the sun is at the same azimuth as the satellite) is the only really-exact method?
(That is, if those calculators are not unprecise as well...???)

The receiver didnt seem to have been used. Since there are no clones of this receiver yet, i think i shouldnt worry a lot (i hope so).

My i-phone is in a leather enclosure with a magnetic clip .
Have to take it out to use the compass and dishpointer .

Did you buy the receiver recently from a local dealer ? The Open Pli image was released in February this year. Don't get us wrong, we're not saying there is anything wrong with that image or the receiver being supplied with it pre loaded, it's just a little strange..

I bought it like a month ago from a webshop (https://www.electro-sat.nl/) based in Holland. Yes it does seem strange. maybe this is a normal practice with them to make it easier for their customers?! I dont know.

Is it possible you chose the openpli option on the order page ( 10€ extra ), perhaps it shows on the invoice? Alternatively, they may just have included it anyway.

One of our supporting advertisers World of Satellite, flashes your image of choice FOC when you purchase..Anyway, I don't think we should get too hung up on this, as the OP now has it working..

True! But i didn't select that option. Maybe they did it nevertheless.
