Motorised philex setup problem

Wonder if anyone can assist. I am new to this diy satellite instalation. Have recently purchased an HD sat system from a ldi. Installed it ok and can get the sky FTA channels. I then decided to try and motorise the dish. Down to marlin bought a nikkai motor and installed it. So far so good. Tried to follow the instructions about setting it up but got lost and confused after setting the elevation angle of the motor. Not sure how to set the declination angle as there are no numbers on the scales on the dish mount.

So I moved the motor to astra again, get good signal there and tried to tell the receiver to recalculate, assumed it would then simply be a case of selecting hot bird from the go to menu, but though the motor moved to the west I get no signal on the receiver. I am in Aberdeen and the receiver does not have a Thor satellite listed as an option.

What did I do wrong? I can only pick up the astra satellites. Listed as astra1H1KR1L1M. And astra1e1g3a, astra2abdEuro1,

I thought that if the dish was aligned to one satellite the rest would appear when the dish was moved?

Any help appreciated

You need to get a meter, or call the (hundreds of) installers in, or near Aberdeen.

You won't get the arc correct without it, or at least a long time on the roof, the internet and people from this site.

I did look at the guides suggested, hence my question about the missing Thor satellite on my receiver. Is there a way of adding a satellite to teh list programed into my receiver, (as I am at work I do not have the receiver details, but it was a Philex HD --406?)

I will investigate getting an installer, but was hoping to do this install myself.

The receiver may list it as Intelsat 10.02, but in any case it isn't essential to use it, as once you've inserted your coordinates in the USALS/GoToX menu, you can send the dish to another satellite and align on that.

i have reinstalled the dish on a pole on the wall this time it is vertical and plumb, is it necessary to reset the motor? Does it have a memory as i seem to be unable to provide a reference satellite to my receiver. I am attempting to use the usals option. I can locate the astra satellite and i save the setting for this satellite, but whenever i go to the auto tune the receiver wants to move the dish to another setting. I do not know what the reference is supposed to be on the receiver. should i reset tne motor?

  • Reset the motor/send to reference/calibrate.
  • Input your coordinates into USALs.
  • Having a longitude of -2.0954°, drive to 1W° in motor menu or select this satellite.
  • Rotate the dish/motor around the pole with dish EL to locate the above satellite
