Just Sharing This Moved house - Scottish Borders dish farm v2 & v3

Ive managed to get brief tp lock

46E - lnb held offset from 53E dish
3E - handheld zone 1 dish
30W - handheld zone 1 dish

Much impressed with your old school technique, do the same to locate best sat. reception areas at my location before erecting/commiting dish position .

Regards

A quick dish rearrangement has allowed me to add in 39E, 42E, 45E/46E

S0 now it looks like this:

1m dish aligned on 46E. Offset lnbs for 39E 42E & 50E/52E/53E
60cm dish currently roughly aligned on 5E - will be further tweaked over the xmas holidays with offset lnbs added
1m dish aligned on 13E. Offset lnbs for 9E 16E & 19E

Just like old times!

30W added - 60cm zone 2. Its not ideally placed but it will do for now. :D

And 3E - offset lnb from the 13E dish - it gives me most of the tp's although some of the 8psk stuff is pretty lousy.

There was a stiff wind blowing this afternoon and it was alarming to see just how much the dishes were shaking around - I will have to get some strip metal bracing struts and screw the rims of the dish to the shed - the dishes will never survive a full on gale if I dont!

The 5E dish has shifted in the last strong winds - and is now giving me a few channels from 7E! :-rofl2 Ah well that a new satellite location for this house :D

You can pin the dishes to the mounting pipe once you get things all tuned in, I use self drilling "Tek" screws to do this, you drill one into the mounts in two places, it will never move out of alignment again.

Get a huge gale here the fence post mounts will probably snap! When I get a warmer weekend Im going to drop the dishes down on their mounts as far as practical to try to give them a change of surviving. And bang the fence posts in further..... So far Ive had:

The fence posts moving (now all temporarily cross braced until the spring)
The dishes rotating on the pole
The pole rotating in the clamps

The 3E lnb has also moved - that one is giving me a couple of tp from 5E! :-DOH!

FWIW, some thoughts about the things you've not yet been able to totally sort:
- would it be possible to drill a hole through the pole between the dish mounting clamps and put a bolt through that to prevent the clamp moving on the pole by "locking" them together?
- ditto w.r.t. the pole in the clamps that hold it to the post into the ground?
- w.r.t. the post in the ground, wack some angled lateral wooden supports into the ground and nail/screw them to the post supporting the dish to help prevent that rotating in the ground - if that has been a problem?

Or, maybe in the opposite order (which is how I would approach the job)?

Its far too windy to be playing with dishes really but as the sun is shining Ive dug one of the old 60cm zone 2 dishes out of the shed & started seeing what I can find with it. Soo first new log is the Algerian channels on 12674H on SES4 at 22W. :) First time Ive ever logged this bird due to the problems with the trees at the old house.

A gorgeous afternoon up here so Ive been doing some maintenance before the next storms hit. The 1m dish for 13E and around there has been dropped down the post a bit in the hope it wont move so much. the 60cm aimed at 3Eish has been replaced by an 80cm which has had the added bonus of bringing in 1.9E as well which is new to me.

Just a shame there is nothing fta on there to have a look at atm!

Storms?

Storms?

At our latitude and northwards all we ever get is a gentle breeze.

We don't even know what a breeze is like. That's why in Israel people talk so much in the hope that talking would generate some air turbulence.

Yes more hot air than a חמסין (Khamseen)

Intelsat/Thor 1W successfully added into the system With an offset lnb on the 3E dish Im getting far more channels than expected. I shall have to have a look at what beams Im getting,.

Shame there are so few fta channels on 1W!

EDIIT - I get almost everything apart from some of the high fec DVB-S2 8PSK freqs (and everything on those is encrypted anyway!) Some of he channels wont have much rain margin but I can live with that.

After seeing some feeds you had listed I moved my dish over to 12.5W, landed on some Italian language channel with a pretty awful data rate/picture and there's some African guy laughing with some mental sounding demon laugh whilst a video of him was being shown of him "standing on water".......asking for money lol
