Hi

I will be moving my dish soon. a bit higher from where it is to get better signal quality. Because of a tree i am only getting 78 signal quality. I was wondering if i just move the mount up and leave the motor and dish together. would i have to realign because the position of the mount is higher. Or am i just being dumb? because i just want to take it down with the motor still together and just put the mount higher up. and with out touching the latitude and elevation does it matter?

If the tree is in the way, then you should be able to relocate it with minimal readjustment, but it will probably need some fine tuning. Also, are you sure the tree is actually in the way?

Yes it is the tree. Thank for the reply. Could you recommend any tools to keep get the pole vertical.

Spirt level.
If you raise the mast, it'll need some realignment to get you back on track.

Personally I like inclinometers with a magnetic base ..
Of course ..not much use if your pole is Ally ..but great for scaffolding pole.

I've got a fence post mount level that's magnetic and works great to get pole level.

You mention getting 78% signal quality, which might be poor, but it also might be normal, it all depends on the size of your dish and the channels you are getting 78% signal quality on. Each receiver will provide different signal quality/strength readings, as there is no set scale, to compare them to.
If your arc is about 42E to 30W then I doubt the tree will be affecting all these satellites, unless there are a great number of them.
Perhaps you could upload some pictures, and explain which satellite, satellites, are affected.

Fall foliage usually helps this time of the year, have you thought of removing the tree? That is if it belongs to you.

Unfortunately i am waiting to see what the council says about the trees. if the council do not own them. Then they are all going down. because they are starting to come onto the roofs. i have complained but nothing is happened so fair.

If they have grown so close that they are reaching your house, then I'm sure you have a right to be able to trim them back.

Best wait on who owns them first before cutting off some of the tree.

He could be so lucky. But probably not.

I keep hoping but it never happens.

Bit late now but you can make a plumbline on an A4 bit of card with string and an old nut for pence. Accurate to 0.01 degrees.

Can you put the dish down by the fence at the bottom of the garden - it should clear the tree firing over the roof of the house round the corner.

Ive got 4 dishes right down the bottom of our garden to get round trees - they work fine.
