last night i used my skystar2 to record a mpeg2 film can i just put this onto a
dvd-r disk or do i have to convert to diverent format,i want to make dvd for my dvd machine and what should i do converting it to and what converta do i need

Look in the Idiots guide in the dreambox section and go to ts to dvd written by haggard. Also I use dvr studio pro to convertfrom ts to dvd.

Yes you need to create DVD files .VOB files before you can write to a blank dvd
I use NERO myself to create the VOB files and write the dvd. Works very well
 
got this winavi converta downloaded and dont know where to start at the
moment i have a mpeg2 file stored on my pc hdd,now im not sure how to go about it,from what im told i have to convert the mpeg2 file to avi that will
play in my dvd machine,its my first time i have ever done this kind of thing
has anyone got the same software and could tell me how its done thanks

DVDs use whats called an image so you need software to convert the video file and create an image. The only way you can create a DVD to play in a player is to use software.

Do you have windows or apple mac computer and what version of software do you use on it (windows98 windows2000 MAC OSX) ?
 
i have windows xp home sp2 and i dont have any software likw word 2000
and so on bit limited at the moment the win is free i dont have any converta
software apartfrom what i have downloaded, i have been reading that if i record a film usung mpeg2 then use winavi to convert it into a format which works in my pc and dvd machine,i dont see what the eindows software has got to do with it all

picture and what do i need and where to go for it,to make good movie file,
i would be greatful to any one who helps me i have one mpeg movie file,
and what format do i need to convert to so i can play on my dvd player,
i have used the winavi and managed to convert the mpeg file but when i put into player it could not read it, so any help thanks richard

DVDs can be used to save files or for films. The same as CDs can be used to save files or music.
When you save the mpeg2 file onto your DVD you are only saving the file from your PC you are not creating a movie DVD. As I said before you need software to create a DVD movie image onto a DVD.
I have MAC OSX so can't help with software for a windows PC. BUT do you have a camcorder and software. Some software packages which come with camcorders can create a DVD for you. If not then try looking at the download sites on the internet and get some software to create & burn DVDs.

Did you not read this. And Dvr studio pro does it all in one.

I just burn the file as a data file (no conversion)
Plays OK on my matsui and bush
Depends on your dvd player
