Hi guys,
I fairly recently bought an Infinity USB programmer; one of the reasons for doing this was to have the ability to upgrade my MR which is on Rev 1.051. I programmed 2 Fun6 cards and start the download. All seems to progress well until I get an error message (after about a minute) with the message - download stopped, card removed or cable disconnected (or words to that effect). I have a BEC6800CIP receiver.

Being new to programming, I decided to verify that I was doing things right by loading a 6in1 file. This is a partial success in that on 30W, for example, I can open the TV Cabo channels but not the D+ channels with the 6in1. I have also tried 6in1 files on a Fun5 with the same result. I think this shows that at least, I have the hang of the Infinity (or is this still a programming question that I have posted in the wrong forum?).

I have tried different files. I have tried all the obvious things I can think of like rebooting. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

It's pretty easy to enter codes on the MR so if all else fails, I can stick to that I suppose!

OK, I have now read of the situation with D+ - only the problem of upgrading the MR to concern myself with.

May be worth making sure that you are on an unencrypted channel, or better still, disconnect the LNB cable, then the receiver will not interupt the programming by trying to interrogate the cam.

Thanks for the reply Rolf. I had been using an unencrypted channel but I disconnected the LNB anyway, as you suggested. It makes no difference - everything appears to go OK, exactly as described in the guide MR for idiots except that the download of the card never completes and I get the message "card extracted or not responding, please try again"

I have clutched at every straw it is possible to clutch at but it makes no difference. Getting the MR to Rev 1.053 is not a priority but I would like to be able to Know that I can do it so that I can take advantage of future (hopefully) upgrades.

Is the alternative the CAS interface? Should I be acquiring that and maybe a titanium card as well?

Update:
I never did get the CAM firmware updated - the best that I managed was to get Cards (Fun6) 1 and 2 downloaded by leaving them in the CAM until they defaulted into download (ie I didn't hit OK as instructed after inserting the card). Unfortunately, after such a promising development, I was then asked for Card 3!

This latest disappointment co-incided with Toecutter's Xmas offer of MRs for 70UKP so I took the easy option and ordered another.

So a problem for another day, I may well go for a CAS interface but I think I will probably wait for the release of CAS 2. I haven't yet been tempted to try downloading to the new MR which is at Rev 1.055 anyway - I think I'll wait until it's required.

Hi,

Most card updating problems are caused by using the wrong files, not erasing the cards well, not setting the right eeprom size in the programmer proggie ( 512 or 1024 Kb).
I'm using the cas interface for it, the new cas 2 will do the reprogramming in 4 to 5 minutes in the pcmcia slot.

Cheers,

Cor.

I aint an expert, but I have never had a problem upgrading MR's with Fun Card 6's. It is vital to clear the cards completely before starting and also to double check all settings are correct before starting the programming..... as Cor has correctly stated.

Good luck

Thanks Silvernet and Cor. I'm fairly certain that I am programming the Fun 6s correctly (and erasing them first) - if only because the Infinity programmer is about as idiot proof as it gets (I think). I understand that a similar type problem exists with the Technomate receivers and Fun 6s. As I say, I bought another MR but I am loathe to play with the firmware on it until I need to. When I do, I will report my findings.

I HAD SAME PROBLEM USING 3 5IN1 FILES TO UPDATE FIRST 2 WOULD LOAD NO. 3 WOULD FAIL.
SO I USED THE 4IN1 FILES 6 OF THEM WORKED FINE

I've been playing with the Laptop loader for the MR, takes a few minutes to install the program initially, but once installed, the flashing is quick (several minutes) and effortless, you can also initialise the CAM in the Laptop, good news for those Humax owners.

Strangford, do a search on this site for Toecutters Den; go there and subscribe. Then go to the Matrix Reloaded section at Toecutters where you will find a "sticky" on how to upgrade the MR. You will also find the required file there.

If you need help on how to use the Infinity programmer, you can find this here in the "How To" section or at Toecutters for that matter. Having done that, if you require further help - come back and let us know where your problem is.

Interesting development here - still having the same problem upgrading the MR (remember I've now got two and I'm now similarly struggling with the second one!). Anyway, in a fit of frustration I plugged in the one that's been lying unused for the past seven weeks and guess what - I reprogrammed it straight away, first time, to 1.06 with two Fun6s. I wonder whether heat might be a bit of a problem here, the CAM does seem to get quite hot in the CI slot in my receiver. Anybody got any thoughts on this theory? I'll try to confirm the theory with the other CAM over the weekend.

Never normally a problem in Aberdeen Norm. ;)

But yes, has been known to cause problems on flashing cams.

And tonight it's particularly cold, Rolf - obviously exactly what was required!

Thats interesting, you could make toast on my MR Cam when it's been in the RX for a while, but I have never had any problems. I have used Card Master USB and Infinity USB programmers without a hitch, I guess I must tread in some doggy stuff on the way home..Now you know whats going to happen on the next upgrade ..lol..
