I can now get mtv france and mtv central. I take it that mtv central is not another name for the german mtv is it? as i would still like to find this channel.

German MTV is (certainly used to be) soft-encrypted under Videocrypt/analogue on astra-1.
Ie any old videocrypt decoder will do it without the need for a smart card.

In fact.... it is no longer even encrypted. Any old analogue receiver will do it (or any new one).
It is actually "MTV Central Europe". 11612/H on Astra1

On the same sat., digital under Seca/Mediaguard there's the whole MTV=Networks package (VH-1, extra, etc etc including MTV Central Europe) at 12699/V/22000 fec 5/6. So imagine you had one of those popular gold-coloured hobby cards...

Just for the record folks MTV Germany was never soft encrypted! It just had a flag to fool the videocrypt decoders so that it appeared scrambled! (Obviously something to do with Sky's policy!) Anyone using a receiver without a videocrypt decoder would have had no problem. Off course it is now clear anyway. Watch it in digital much better!

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Going back to the original question Starman

If this is the only transponder thats giving problems then it looks like either a cable fault (which causes a notch at the particular IF downlink frequency), or the start of something more serious in the tuner circuit. A long cable may also cause trouble at one frequency.

First thing is to change the F plugs at both ends and remove any line amplifier. If no cure then start saving some money

The Music Factory (TMF) on 16 East is a very good alternative (my favourite of all music on satellite)

As being a music person, I was wondering if anyone of you know if there are and channels which broadcast musicvideos at late night. those who sort of broadcast till midnight then put the music videos on.

Especially of a Dance Music Channel, whihc plays tunes like the ones on Skydigital KISS (450) and MTV DANCE.

MTV germany had a very odd soft encription, with my old analog receiver everyting was ok,but with the analog receiver with videocrypt,it became scrambled after a second, but there was a trick I found on a newspaper who actually worked:I had to put in the decoder socket a scart plug with 2 poles connected then choose decoder in the remote when I wanted to watch it...but I don't remember the actual number of the poles I had to connect..maybe 2 and 19 but I can't swear on it.

There were several fixes for MTV Germany. The one that I used on my Pace MSS300 was to turn down the video level until the decoder locks out, then turn up the contrast on my TV!

Dear Ugania

Pin 19 to 20, 1 to 2 and 3 to 6.

Selecting external decoderwould provide raw baseband through to the video input , and the unit will give picture and sound

Dear Shahid

Music videos - try Canal Jimmy late at night (and again TMF can be found encrypted on the Dutch Astra package - but its free on 16 East)
