Multi LNB setup 19.2e, 13e, 9e help!

Hi all,

I was wondering if i could pick your collective brains for some help :)

I'm just finished putting up my multi LNB system to pick up Astra1 19.2e, Hotbird 13e and Eurobird 9e but after getting it up ready and messing about with it for about 1 hour (it got too dark) I only managed to pick up hotbird only.

heres my setup (only 2 lnb's were on at that point)

all LNB's are connected to a 4 port Diseqc, the dish is a generic 80cm dish on a tripod, the satellite box has been setup with the correct diseqc settings and im based in London UK.

Hotbird being the "middle" satellite, I placed the LNB as close to the centre of the arc as possible. After getting a signal, I fixed the dish in place and then started to move the other LNB's about to pick up the other satellites but no joy.

Am I doing this right? is there a better way to find and pick up these satellites? is there something that i've missed out?
any help appreciated

Well 9E will be the the right of the 13E lnb as you face the dish. You need to lower it slightly as well.

The 19E lnb will need to be raised as well - probably by the width of the lnb head or so.
 
Heres a pic of mine, it is aimed at 13E and to the right of that (As you look at the pic that is) is 19E

Hi Analogue, thanks for the help, i'll give it a go again tomorrow.

How do other people go about offsetting the height on LNB's on multi sat setups? The only way I can think of changing the height in my case would be to place some spacers on the brackets to arm mounting point.

Hi Ghostleader, SIX LNB's! geez!

thanks for the pic, it'll sure help me out. what brackets are you using on your dish? sliding my LNB's along my bracket is extremely hard as its a very tight fit, so getting what you have there would make things alot easier.

Metronic 15degree multi bracket kit is my weapon of choice for installs up here, heres a pic of a 80cm install for Hotbird & 28 Degrees East.

Does the arm not tilt? That would give you the up and down adjustment.

For 19, 13 and 9e, tilt the arm down on the right a bit and jam all the Lnbs next to eachother, should at least give you a lock, then you may have to move the 19e to the left a bit.

Also if the holders don't slide easy, can you not file the clamps out a tiny bit?
 
Hi Robo, I dont know if the arm tilts or not. I'll have to check that tomorrow. thanks for the advice!
 
You need a bracket that tilts mate, other wise theres theres levels of BER that are just silly & you will lose weaker transponders in bad weather far too easy.
 
That bracket looks like a modified Triax multisat bracket, screwed directly onto the bottom half of an LNB holder, so probably won't tilt. It also has to be taken into account that 13 and 9E are difficult to get from separate LNBs, as they are very close together, thin LNBs need to be used.

This is a universal version of the Triax type bracket, complete with tilt mechanism. ebay 260923814697
 
Well I only had a bit of time off yesterday and...

@Robbo, I've had a look at the arm and it doesn't tilt at all.

@Rolfw, Yes it is a modified Triax multi LNB bracket. I've found the original parts to the kit but I've found out that the bit that the bracket fits onto (the plastic part that allows it to tilt) doesn't actually fit on the dish's arm

My dish's arm is a rectangular 3x2cm ish while the brackets plastic bit is about 4x2cm. Is there an adapter out there that would allow me to attach it on?

I just had a look at that ebay item. yea that looks like it would work :( shame i didnt buy that one instead :( :(

Just bend the bracket upwards a bit - thats what I did with my offset system for 16E/23.5E/28E

May be difficult with that bracket, it is quite thick, better to try and modify the original mount to fit inside the smaller boom.
 
I agree, bending the bracket is probably your best solution. Otherwise, you need a universal bracket like this :

Hi all, thanks for the advice.

I'll try modifying the plastic bit as it seems alot easier to do then to bend the metal bracket. if that fails, ill just buy the universal lnb bracket.

Pretty impossible to bend the Triax bracket, its far too thick.

Better to turn it upside down, use one of the LNB holders to clamp over the focal LNB. Focal LNB woukld use original holder for dish. Make sure the focal LNB has a long enough neck, or 'slim' down the holders a litle. You will then be able to tilt it.
 
Hi all. I've managed to get this all working with the universal multi lnb bracket.

My box is rescanning for new channels now.
